I finally got to this. It's certainly good timing, considering "Out in the Country" (in several versions) is going to be on Sail On Sailor. Some interesting stuff in the interview.
One really interesting tidbit about working on that song: he says that when they were going to work on it at one point, Desper asked, "Is this going on the album? Because Warner Bros doesn't want us working on anything that isn't going on the album." And Carl said yes, it's going on the album.
Now whether Carl believed that to be the case, or just wanted to keep working on the song, who knows? But it's an interesting anecdote.
It's also interesting that Desper was working on it, since I thought he was more or less out of the picture by the Holland sessions, which is where I though this fit. (Though I suppose he also had those stories and some early tapes of "Sail On, Sailor," so even if he wasn't the primary engineer at that point, clearly he was still involved to some degree.)
