For the nerdier fans, this follow-up on my recreation video goes into my Logic Pro session and plays solo instruments and instrument groups, and gets into the arrangement and production in depth.

Thank you for this, JH. You have an enviable talent for getting complex matters across so that even the technically challenged likes of me can understand them. That's a fascinating theory, that the piano bass riff and the ska-like organ rhythm electric piano [oops] are being played simultaneously by a single player. As an (admittedly amateur) pianist, it strikes me as being supremely difficult to get the different feels on the two parts sounding right. Looking forward to your upcoming take on "Let Him Run Wild". And even more to "Salt Lake City", my favourite cut on the Stack-0-Tracks album.

I'm just watching this now, joshilynhoisington, and loving it for several reasons. (Enough to overlook being called one of the "nerdier fans!" Truth hurts...)
1. It's just so damn impressive, the project in general and your ability to do it. And it's a blast to get a better feel for how these songs were arranged and recorded.
2. As someone who also uses Logic Pro, it's fun watching someone with so much more expertise work in that system. It's just good for ideas totally unrelated to the Beach Boys.
3. I love that you aren't one of those YouTubers who focuses excessively on what I consider the silly stuff: visual effects, trying to be too slick or polished in presentation, graphics, etc. You are making music, or showing how music is made, in a really informal, straight-ahead way that I truly appreciate. (I had to laugh early on when you said you'd link to the video of the track "over there somewhere" [waving your hand vaguely toward your left] if you could figure it out.)

Thanks! JK, I think you're probably right -- it'd be real hard to play the bass line and the electric piano at the same time. It's also possible I don't have the part quite right there and that the Electric piano is playing something slightly simpler... When I play the song through on Piano, I play the bass part with my left hand and up-beat chords with my right. Hard to say! As for Kapitan's number 3 up there, I mean, there's zero chance of me becoming a major influencer, so why bother with bells and whistles when I'm all about the music anyway? I appreciate that you appreciate that. I do occasionally suffer from video production envy. But I'm gonna keep doing it my way.

Although I can not for the life of me see you ever resorting to cheap effects.
