While trying to find more info on Brian's tour and health situations, I came across a 2021 book I do not believe I heard of. Has anyone else heard of "Reading Smile," by Dale Carter? Carter is a professor of American Studies at a Danish university. By the publisher, the cost, and the look of the preview's citations, it seems to be a semi-serious academic book.

It's a bit prohibitively expensive to just pick up, but certainly Routledge is major academic publisher.
From the various previews it looks like it's VERY speculative and interpretive, in the sort of classic Smile mythos way, where the interpreter brings way more to the material than was ever there in the intentions. But some people are into that!

Yes, I'd say that was in a lot of ways as big a piece of the pre-BWPS Smile universe as the music itself: "what does it all mean?" (And I think many people's answers--most people's answers?--read more into it than was there.)
