Personally, when I think of 1970s bands, I tend to think of bands who released debut albums in the 1970s. However, this list includes several bands who debuted in the 1960s (including the band this forum is dedicated to at #29) if they managed to make an impact in the 1970s. ultimateclassicrock.com/70s-american-rock-bands/

I don't know what's worse, the list or the rankings. I immediately reeled of 5 or 6 better bands, then I realized that they were British. The fact that this list is American bands does keep off several better ones. I will give them credit for including Blue Oyster Cult.

That reminds me, on one of the previous boards I got into a debate about the best American rock band, or maybe the best American rock band of the '70s. I insisted it was Led Zeppelin. I was getting some push-back, which I thought was about them being the best American rock band ... and only after probably 4-5 posts back and forth did I realize it was about them being the best American rock band. D'oh!

I remember several years ago, our local classic rock station decided to only play American bands during the Fourth of July Weekend. It was pretty amazing how many great artists they couldn't play during that three day period. And, they still excluded The Beach Boys.
