While I haven't ever been especially interested in Manson himself or the murders he had carried out, I am interested in knowing more about that relationship with the Beach Boys.
I've heard some of Manson's music and can't say I think it's very good at all. Though I know some people seem to like it, I have to admit I wonder if that's in part for the transgressive nature of saying so. Regardless, I'm still curious what is sitting in those Brother vaults ... not that I expect to ever hear it.

I've always been frustrated by the coverage - or lack of thorough, detailed (truthful?) coverage - of The Beach Boys/Charles Manson...relationship.
I'm far from a Manson expert, but wasn't his desire to be a recording artist, a rock star if you will, second only to his shenanigans in The Family. His music, and getting it heard/recorded was very important to him. Then, Dennis and The Beach Boys recorded one of Manson's songs within one calendar year of the infamous murders, and, from some of the things I've read (and who knows what is true), Manson was not happy with the way things ultimately turned out.
I think this is very significant in the Manson story. How many people back in the day were recording Charles Manson songs, and how many artists that even approached The Beach Boys in popularity and reputation were even giving him the time of day? I'm in no way suggesting that Manson's relationship with Dennis and The Beach Boys- and the eventual parting - in some way led to the brutal murders. But, a lot happened in 1968/69 and I'd like to finally find out exactly what it was. Maybe Jim Berkenstadt has some real facts.
