Bumping this to let everyone know beachboystalkmatt had Rob Bonfiglio as their guest yesterday. I am just beginning to watch now, but I'm excited for it. Very curious to hear from him. I'm not sure I've really heard much at all from him, ever.

Lots of interesting stuff, but I note in particular that one thing Rob said really hearkens back to something we were saying in the "New Interviews, Articles" thread about how good the musicians in the Beach Boys were or weren't. He makes a point when asked about what he learned from working in the various bands (having appeared with both the BW band and the Mike and Bruce band), and his answer included something about not having to be technical, musical stuff, and that getting along with people is a hugely important part of being in a band.
Now, I know we all know that. But it's interesting how often musicians bring that up. (I recently heard Nuno Bettencourt talk about that as part of the Generation Axe tour.) I think it is like sports, too, or probably a lot of fields: it just reinforces that sure, there's a basic level of skill or competence for your art, but it's not the sole decider for fitting into a band, or the success of a band. When you're touring the country in a bus with these four other guys, it's arguably more important that somebody can hold up half a conversation, has good personal hygiene, and isn't pilfering your t-shirts than that he understands tritone substitution.

Thanks Kapitan! Rob was great. I also appreciated when he talked about the audiences. Mike and Bruce have more of a party feel at their shows. He said both are fun, just different. He is certainly a very versatile and talented musician. Thanks for watching and supporting us!
