Greg and I are so excited to welcome to the show the incredible Probyn Gregory of the Brian Wilson band, who has been with Brian since the relaunching of his solo tours in the late 90's! Probyn is a brilliant musician and we are looking forward to speaking with him about his career and his experience with Brian Wilson throughout the years. Make sure to join us tomorrow at 8 EST!!

One of the coolest things about Probyn is that he’ll go outside before a show and talk with the fans waiting in line.

I think Probyn has been a (for fans maybe not-so-) secret weapon for Brian's band. Think about the bases he covers: guitars, banjo, ukelele, french horn, trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone, keyboards, vibes, tannerin, vocals... He's really the kind of musician whose versatility makes the live shows possible.

Probyn was a great guest. I think he would've stayed indefinitely.
Anyone else have any answers to the question Probyn passed on? What's one Beach Boys or BW song you know the BW Band will never play live that you wish they would?

Thanks! It was a very interesting interview! Probyn was insightful into the musical side and had some great stories! To answer the question, I would say Goin' On! Love that song, and it would sound good with the current band. Not a lot of solo singing for Brian in that one!

I was thinking of the question more along the lines of some of Brian's more off-the-wall or unreleased songs. For example, "Solar System," "Johnny Carson," or something unreleased like "Lines" or "Stevie."

Another great show, beachboystalkmatt. Probyn said, "I play the show for free. They pay me to travel." I liked that. Probyn obviously loves what he's doing, as do probably all of the band members. Probyn was really into the interview, and another of your guests who was in no hurry to leave! I like to hear musicians enthusiastically talk about what they are doing as opposed to being ho-hum and just viewing it as work or a job. I liked Greg's question about the temptation to be a "Beach Boys geek" and asking (or not) questions of Brian and Al. Those are the types of questions we fans are curious about.

I really enjoyed the music-specific talk, by the way. I get that probably not everyone is as interested in that, but anyone who plays an instrument or sings at all--not just professionally, or even seriously as a hobby, but at all--probably gets something out of it. For example, when he was talking about the difficulty in doubling as opposed to harmonizing, that was really interesting. The story about an embarrassing, unintentional solo on a cold, out-of-tune French horn is something anyone who ever played in a marching band or any outdoor shows can relate to. Discussions of the stamina required to play long shows, and what that means in terms of a warmup routine. Talking about how much individuality is permissible in a group with such highly arranged parts.
Those are the sorts of things I enjoy most of all (along with the Beach Boys stories, of course).
