Another artist makes a mint by selling his catalog: Bruce Springsteen reportedly will haul in $500 million after selling all of his masters and publishing to Sony. That is around $200 million more than either Bob Dylan got for his publishing or Taylor Swift's masters brought in. (But this is both masters and publishing, so it makes more sense.)
I hope the 72-year-old boss can stretch it, make it last. You'd hate for him to run out of cash in his old age, and half a billion doesn't go as far as it used to...

Pink Floyd just dropped about 12 live albums from their 1970-71 onto streaming services, including Spotify, as they seem to be joining the trend in copyright releases for half century old material. ultimateclassicrock.com/pink-floyd-rare-live-albums-streaming/I think I've bought several on these on bootleg CDRs back in the 90s, but I really haven't looked through that stuff in ages. And, I think some of it was officially released on their expansive / expensive Early Years Box Set.

This is barely news, but I got a chuckle out of it. Frankly, I thought it was nice to see a proper rock band on New Years "Rockin" Eve for a change. And, I thought Journey made the best of their six minutes. But, apparently, CNN's Andy Cohen is one of many who thinks that the current band is "not Journey" due to the lack of one Steve Perry, who left the band in 1997, and actually gave Neal Schon the blessing to carry on without him. ultimateclassicrock.com/andy-cohen-journey/

That's great! You know, I was doing some channel-surfing on New Year's Eve, and on every channel, I either never heard of the artists performing or heard of them and had zero interest in seeing/hearing them. It made me feel sad. And very old. Today's music has completely passed me by (sorry to sound so depressing).

I used to find my disconnect with modern music depressing, especially in my teens and 20s, because that's when I'm "supposed" to like modern music. Since I aged out of the 18-34 demo, when I'm "supposed" to not like modern music, it hasn't bothered me so much. I only tire of the "well, you're just looking in the right places" stuff I hear whenever I say modern music sucks. I tried to dig. I tired of it. But, anyway. I heard about it through Journey's Facebook page, and figured I'd tune in. I tuned in just in time to see their performance.

Wasn't some newscaster-host drunk on air another time recently? Perhaps if these organizations are going to pretend to be serious and cover these events, they ought to have a "don't get drunk on air, you fucking idiot" rule.

I think it might've been Cohen who was drunk on the air in that time you're referring too, and he might've been on here too.

Though it's notable that the top seller, Adele's album, moved only about 898,000 units last year. For a comparison, the most units ever sold in a single year was NSYNC's No Strings Attached, which sold more than 9.9 million albums in 2000. Several dozen albums from the past sold more than Adele's yearly total of 898k within their peak week of sales (including Adele herself).

I think Adele's album also hit rather late in the year too, and her albums tend to have a bit of staying power when it comes to sales. Nice to see CDs have an uptick in sales though. It's been my preferred format since about 1995 (even if I've been leaning on Spotify the last several years), and this leads me to believe it's not going to go the way of the cassette tape anytime soon.

Hmm perhaps Barstool Sports should stick to sports.

From the little I read, they barely get sports right.
But, I posted this before, I occasionally visit a forum for Baltimore sports, and they go off into other topics besides sports. I'm not an expert on music, but I'm a proud music geek, and when some of the posters talk about music, they often make it clear that they don't have what they're talking about. So, that's probably the type of folks who put this list together.

I'll give 'em Elvis and Sinatra, but that's about it. And, no Jim Morrison! That's a mortal sin right there.
