Oh, if I had to bet on whether it is something closer to my ideal (say, 4 hours or more) or closer to the norm (2 hours or less), I'd bet on the latter. I think even if it started more grandiose--which we don't know, by any means: it has all been our hoping, nothing else--odds are it's the kind of thing that would have come to earth during its preproduction and production.
I don't know that I have seen any band members mention being interviewed. In fact, the only mention I recall is Al having said (late last year?) that he had NOT yet been interviewed. But I'm sure they must have been. I mean ... well, never mind. It IS the Beach Boys. (But no, they must have been.)

They don't really NEED to interview the guys again; they've done plenty in the past. At this point, I'll be surprised if the thing actually comes out. And if it does, it might just be a Disney Plus or streaming only thing. It appears the days are gone when all these types of things got a DVD release. I still haven't seen the CCR documentary that was released last year. I really resist the idea of streaming; I feel like I spend enough time on my computer as it is without adding movies and music to it.

Hopefully, there will be a BluRay / DVD release after it airs, especially on a streamer.

I still haven't seen the CCR documentary that was released last year. I really resist the idea of streaming; I feel like I spend enough time on my computer as it is without adding movies and music to it. I feel reasonably sure it's going to come out. After all that chatter about it, and repeated mentions of it being in production, it would be absolutely bizarre even for the Beach Boys for it not to come out at all. I think it's just (seriously) delayed. Then again, there was chatter about Smile in 1966-67, too. And--technically speaking--that hasn't come out yet, either. Maybe we'll get The 60th Anniversary Documentary Sessions, a massive DVD box set release, in 45 years or so... As for streaming, I don't worry about it in that it's just TV now. Streaming is how I watch "regular" TV. While I do watch plenty on my laptop, most TVs (including mine) are online. So it isn't like sitting in front of an old desktop computer or anything, it's just like watching anything else. "The internet of everything" and all that.

Our TVs are too old for streaming, so we use pads and laptop, occasionally the desktop. One thing I've noticed about streaming is that the picture clarity is never as good as the cable signal is on our TV.

I'm trying to remember when I bought my TV. It's been quite a while, but I know it was after I bought my house, which was in 2009. But I'm thinking it's more than 10 years old. Regardless, it is able to stream. And the picture quality has been as good as regular TV was, at least as far as I can tell. Where I notice issues are with the sound: so many shows are made for better (surround) sound systems, and I don't have anything fancy hooked up. So I will watch a game and hear more crowd noise than announcers, or a TV show and hear the traffic sounds, the music, or whatever sound effects over the dialogue at times. (Maybe my hearing is just going...)
But honestly I do end up watching on my laptop quite a bit, too.
Anyway, the documentary: I sure do wish we'd get a little concrete news. And hopefully that news is good (i.e., it's coming soon, and it's really comprehensive).

If the Iconic research staff does its job, they have 60 years of accumulated interviews to choose from, and hopefully they would choose wisely. We've discussed the prospects of attracting new fans with this documentary and, while we diehards have seen most of the band's interviews, obviously they would be fresh to new viewers.
Back to not needing new interviews...yes, I have little hope for anything new from Mike. Actually, we could probably predict what Mike would say. Same with Al and Bruce, but occasionally those two will give us some head-scratching comments, unless they decide to play it safe. I do have serious reservations about new interviews with Brian. I'll just leave it at that.
We've (I've) also discussed some "wild cards" like David Marks, Blondie Chaplin, Ricky Fataar, Van Dyke Parks, Landy associates, Jeff Foskett, Scott Totten, etc. Maybe they could give us something interesting. There's plenty of family members, too.

Okay, clue me in guys: how does streaming on your tv work? We don't have a cable subscription or anything like that. Can I just turn on the tv and pick up streams from....wherever they are? I'm a dinosaur. Gave up cable 10 years ago because it was burning a hole in my wallet. If I want to watch movies, I get the DVD's from the library I work at. If they don't have it, I try to find it on You Tube - for free.
Back to the Doc: I am hoping (in vain) they've uncovered some rare interviews with Carl and Dennis. If this was to be an honest documentary, I would include Good Morning America from 1980, where Dennis is sleeping on Carl's shoulder, and Brian looks like a robot.
Actually, what would be funny to us Brian lovers is a montage of clips where he mentions "Be My Baby".

Update: Apparently they did get together for the documentary, according to a recent interview with Mike Love. Relevant info in the quote box, taken from what looks to be another clickbait story on the BBs playing with Jimmy Page, but with some new info towards the end. WOW! this makes me even more excited for the doc!!! sounds amazing!!!!!
and so happy to hear that Brian and Mike can get together, and not get into business/politics... that's great. thats all i really wish for at this point. To see the two cousins that grew up together, changed pop music forever, and wrote countless hits together, finally able to put aside their differences and be in eachother's company again.
And nothing negative to say from Mike. He's come a long way from the days of constantly throwing his bandmates under the bus. I think he is much more mature, at peace, and comfortable in his own skin, and with his own legacy these days.

Some of the newer TV’s like the TCL Roku TV’s, have the ability to stream without having to use a Roku, Apple TV or Firestick, but we use a Roku box to access the streaming apps, since our TV is 12 years old. You just hook up the streaming box to the TV with an HDMI cable. There are plenty of free Apps, like Roku TV, YouTube, Pluto TV and Tubi. They all are add supported. I have Netflix, Sling and Peacock subscriptions as well, that are add free. I probably spend the most time on YouTube though.

I think what you describe is what they've had in a couple motels I've stayed at. I don't know how old our tv is; dad bought it at Goodwill, and we inherited it from him.
