I'll admit that some of my all time favorite musicians seem to be total assholes - Roger Waters, Gene Simmons, and Ritchie Blackmore come to mind. Even one Michael E. Love has his moments.
I was randomly thinking about musicians who really seem like nice guys, who I'd really love to like, but their music is just....not quite there for me.
The first one I can think of is Dave Grohl. Grohl puts a ton of energy in his live performances. He's done some fun side projects. He has a sense of humor, judging by his cameos in the Tenacious D movie, The Muppets reboot, and the latest Bill and Ted. Plus, he just seems like a fan, the kind of guy who you'd have to sit and have a beer and talk about Rush or Motorhead with. But....alas, he was the drummer of one of my least favorite bands of all time - Nirvana. And outside of maybe two or three songs, Foo Fighters are very "meh" for me.
Mark Tremonti - I've actually met him twice when I worked in radio, and he couldn't have been nicer. He also seems like a genuine rock fan, and down to earth guy. But, he's the guitarist for the band that pretty much ushered in the grunge lite movement of the late 90s - Creed. And, Alter Bridge really wasn't much better IMO. I also got to meet the guys from Shinedown back when they were an up and coming band, but they are the epitome of bland 00s grunge lite.
Lady Gaga - Once you get past her "I'm the weird, edgy pop tart" schtick, which she seems to have thankfully put behind her, she's another one who seems like a down to earth person. She's also a big time metal head, whose presence backstage at Maiden shows has made metal fanboys' heads explode. She seems cool. Maybe one day, she'll actually sing on a project I like.
