I heard on NPR this morning that Americans are expected to spend about $108 per person on Halloween this year. That blows my mind! One woman interviewed said she usually buys multiple costumes for each of her children every year. Of course those increasingly large and sophisticated yard decorations must be a big part of it, too.
My Halloween expenses this year: about $10 on a big bag of mini candy bars, all of which probably will be eaten by me, as we haven't had many or any trick-or-treaters in several years.

We don’t get many, if any trick or treaters, and I have a bag of Skittles packs I use to stock my candy bowl for guests, so I spent $0 this year. I don’t even know where my Halloween decorations are.

I live near a town in GA where Halloween has become something like our version of Mardi Gras, with a big costumed parade and a massive public party. Lots of ghoulish / fun lawn decor, including a self-guided tour sponsored by the local news outlet, as well as a neighborhood costumed dog parade. Halloween is huge here. But so is Trunk or Treat (people giving out goodies from their cars in designated parking areas). This has pretty much put an end to door-to-door trick-or-treating in my neighborhood. We still keep a bowl of candy handy, just in case. We'll see if anyone stops by tonight. Meanwhile, we'll be cosying up to a DVD of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.Trunk or Treat is becoming more popular around here as well. I guess it's more convenient for the parents and arguably safer for the kids, but what fun is that? It almost seems depressing getting dressed up just to walk around a parking lot and then head home. Hopefully door to door trick or treating is still around by the time I have kids.

We do a trunk or treat or two leading up to Halloween, and do traditionsl trick or treating Halloween night (except last year when we did Mall-oween due to rain).

The mall used to be where the kids here went trick-or-treating before going to the neighborhoods. Now the mall is defunct, and trunk-or-treat is what's replaced it in one-stop candy "shopping."
Happy Halloween y'all!

Happy Halloween y'all! 🎃The mall we went to last year is a borderline "dead mall." Most of the spaces have tenants, but not a ton of foot traffic. I'm amazed its still open, as there have been rumors of its demise for over 20 years. Last Halloween was the first time I'd been there is nearly a decade. And probably the most crowded I'd seen it since the late 90s.

Well, what do you know? A couple of kids (one a ninja turtle) and their mom stopped by before sunset tonight! I gave them a big handful of candy, and they were the only trick-or-treaters we had today. But it was still nice to have someone show up.

In the Baltimore area, the neighborhoods with rowhouses get the most trick or treaters. Families in single family home neighborhoods will drive to the rowhouse neighborhoods.

Another year without a single trick-or-treater. To be fair, it was right around freezing and there was some snow lingering since the morning/overnight snowfall. But if I were a kid, I'd have been out! (I really wanted candy when I was a kid...)

So, while Halloween is now over, we're still four days away from the premiere of The Simpsons annual Treehouse of Horror.
In past years, back when The Simpsons were still relevant, and their Treehouse episode was an event, the episode would air in November because FOX carried the bulk of the MLB postseason.
Other than the World Series, thats not really the case now. In fact, The Simpsons aired three new episodes in October, including the Sunday before Halloween.
Are they holding over until November in an attempt for sweeps ratings? Is that even a thing anymore? Or, 35 seasons in, do FOX and/or The Simpsons just not care anymore? Or, do they consider Guy Fawkes Day a part of Halloween season?
