A rabbit has made itself a little nest in my garden on the edge of the thyme. It's the exact spot where the spring before last, I uncovered a nest of half a dozen little baby rabbits, making me wonder if this is where this rabbit was born and she plans to give birth there? (Are rabbits like salmon in this respect?)
Half of me wants to chase her out, fill in the little hole she's dug, and let my garden be exclusively a garden. But half of me thinks she's not doing much harm and if not there, then where?
I'm hoping the second half of you prevails.

I'm hoping the second half of you prevails. Well, in that she's been making herself comfortable--though I'm speculating as to the rabbit's sex, truth be told--for more than a week now, I suspect that's the half that's going to win. It's the half that's winning so far, anyway. As long as she doesn't destroy anything, it's not a problem. (Digging a little hole on the edge of the thyme isn't what I'd call destruction: the thyme had been growing a bit out of control anyway.)

Fall is in the air this morning: 54 degrees when I awoke, and I was even a little chilly on my early morning walk. (I enjoyed it, though.) Since we're still hitting the mid to high 70s every day, it's nothing to complain about at all for me. In fact, it's my ideal weather.
carllove, that backyard scene looks like heaven.
Yesterday afternoon/evening I kept finding myself distracted from my reading on the patio by my little rabbit garden-guest. I was almost going to shoe her out when I noticed she'd begun eating voraciously ... but it turned out she was eating some weeds at the garden's edge! I guess not only should I not kick her out, but I ought to pay her for her labor. As far as I can tell, she hasn't eaten any of the thyme in which she lives.

Such a nice night! Extremely puzzled. What's in the picture? Looked it various ways, still don't understand. Can you tell me, carllove? Is it BW gig? Somebody else's stage activity? Thanks in advance.

Zinczag - It’s just a picture of my backyard. We have had such horribly hot weather in the central US this Summer, we haven’t been able to enjoy it until now. Hopefully next weekend we will be able to set up the 10 foot screen and watch movies while we enjoy the fire. So relaxing!

It looks like you visited somebody's gig you enjoy (musician, band). It puzzled. Is it the way backyards look in U.S.? Cool re: screen. It kinda reminisces drive-in theatre, the description you brought. Didn't see films in streets, I seen films in buildings.

We have some big backyards in the US - especially in the Midwest. I have an acre, so we have lots of room to enjoy the outdoors. I have a patio area with the fire pit and lights, the lower deck, where I have a fire pyramid and a dining table (the hot tub is on the far side) and an upper covered deck, where we have a grill, sofa, round table and a couple of chairs. If it gets hot, we have a ceiling fan to cool us off.
We bought a projector, sound bar and the screen last year. I can hook up my iPhone and stream You Tube, Vudu, Netflix, and Hulu on it. It’s fun to have friends and family over to watch movies. When my husband goes to bed, I sometimes watch Beach Boys videos from You Tube on the screen.

I had a friend over for lunch, someone I hadn't seen in months. And so rather than watch the Vikings game (smart move, it seems, since they lost), I cooked and we ate on the patio enjoying the day.
The menu was an Indian-themed one, with a marinated, roasted boneless leg of lamb; roasted diced potatoes with onions, ginger, and garlic (first par-boiled in turmeric) as well as a bit of the marinade of the lamb; some basic dal; and some homemade naan. I'd never done a roast leg of lamb before, and so I was a little nervous. But it turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself. And I got to have good laughs and conversation as well as the food rather than watching Minnesota reach 0-1.

That sounds amazing! You made your own naan? How do you do that? The Vikings went into OT - I was actually routing for them for your sake. At least you had a great day otherwise. I love Indian food! We did wings for the game.

Whew - That was close! The KC Chiefs prevailed, but dang, the Browns are for real. Baker Mayfield is impressive. Their running game is on point as well. Just need to work on that kicking game! Mahomes was his usual cool self. What patience he has, for such a young Quarterback.

Looks like my Giants played poorly. Honestly, I had forgotten all about football. Such a nice day, spent most of it outside. Had family over for dinner. Caught most of the third set of the men’s U.S. Open final. Novak was going for the Grand Slam (winning all four majors of the year) and passing both Federer and Nadal for most major titles all-time. He lost in straight sets!

Thank you KC. Nice to have at least one AFC North foe lose.
I noticed one of the new Maiden songs - Stratego - playing in Buffalo coming back from a TV timeout.

That sounds amazing! You made your own naan? How do you do that? The Vikings went into OT - I was actually routing for them for your sake. At least you had a great day otherwise. I love Indian food! We did wings for the game. Wings are so fantastic. So simple, and you can do them a thousand different ways (seasoning- or sauce-wise). I still use the basics of my grandma's old recipe that she used to wow 'em with at church potlucks back in the old days! (Though I usually spice it up and use less sugar.)
Naan: I've been working on it for a couple of years now, and feel like I really have it down. (I love to cook but don't do much baking. I do naan, pizza crusts, and sometimes bread. But really nothing else.)
I make a slightly modified/seasoned bread dough, where I will add a little yogurt, a little onion powder or flakes, garlic powder or finely chopped fresh garlic, a little ground coriander, sometimes dried herbs (dill or thyme), and a pinch of baking soda. (That's in addition to the basic bread dough, for which I just use salt, olive oil, honey, yeast and water. Also I really knead the dough.)
Once it has raised, I punch it down and don't worry about it rising again. Just portion off on a generously floured board into roughly golf ball size balls. Mash 'em down with my hand, sometimes to the point of where they're good to go. If I have to have help, a floured rolling pin gets them flat and thin. I cook them on a dry, very hot cast iron pan on the stovetop, which really simulates the tandoori oven char marks, etc. Flip when it bubbles up, kind of like with pancakes (but this will be just a few big bubbles, unlike pancakes'). You can do them in the oven, which is nice because you just put them all on a sheet pan and do them all together, but I don't think the texture is right--not as chewy, I don't think--and you don't get those great charred bits (which are just where the bubbles were once you flip).
It really isn't even all that time-consuming. I mean, it's not as fast as ordering it! But once you get the hang of it, it's pretty quick. When I make it, I only use a little over a cup of flour, maybe up to 1 1/4 cups. That ends up making probably four or five good-sized (like 6-8 inches across, probably?) pieces.

Thanks Kapitan! I have a Lodge cast iron skillet, so I’m going to have to try that. I was wondering how you baked it. I love the charred bits! Target has a great Tandoori sauce, so I like to make Tandoori shrimp with it. Finally got it down so the potatoes aren’t mushy. Also, carmelizing some onions and using my dried home grown basil, kicks it up a notch.
My husband makes great wings. He knows just how to get them crispy with a nice juicy center. They were great as usual!
