It looks like the Now and Then single will only be available digitally and on vinyl. So, do I get new copies of the Red & Blue albums to own a physical copy? Ummmmmm, probably. I don’t plan to. I’ll be fine buying the single on iTunes for listening purposes, but I am considering picking up the single on 7” (or possibly even on cassette) for the collection. The reason I mention the cassette is I think it looks the best by far. Unfortunately, the cover art is pretty underwhelming. As for the expanded Red & Blue albums, I think streaming to hear the new mixes will be sufficient. I do like that “Now and Then” is the last track on the Blue album. If you’re going to include it, that’s the only good place, IMO. I also like the idea of backing “Now and Then” with a remix of their first single “Love Me Do” (it better have Ringo on drums!), but I think releasing “Now and Then” with “Free As A Bird” and “Real Love” would have been awesome. They still could do that, I suppose. A download's all well and good, but I'd really like a physical copy. And since I don't own a record player, there's no sense in my buying a single I can't play. Of course, there's no hurry since I'll be able to stream the song in just over a week, so I'll probably wait and see if they release a CD single or see if I can get a 2nd hand copy of The New Blue Album. It surely wouldn't be the first time I bought a comp for one new song. It would be the first time I'm re-buying one though.

kds, it looks like there will be a CD single! And I think it'll be available on Nov. 3rd, too, along with the other formats. All the details aren't out yet, though.

I will probably buy the vinyl single eventually, but I'm not reacting to this the way I did to Free As A Bird. If it turns out to be a good recording, I'm cool with that. If it turns out to be worthless, it won't bother me. I've already been through the 'last new song by the Beatles' thing.

I thought you had been mentioning their absence in the past.

I’m going to try to wait until I pick up the 7” after work tomorrow to listen to the song. Then I’ll go back and watch the trailer and documentary as well as the music video that’s coming out Friday. That’s the plan, anyway. I hope I don’t have a problem picking it up at a store. There are a few options around me, if necessary.

That’s the plan, anyway. I hope I don’t have a problem picking it up at a store. There are a few options around me, if necessary. I already prepurchased the single, which means I have access to the making-of documentary now. But I am waiting until I've heard the song to watch that. I believe the song is coming out in about half an hour, based on what I've seen online. But Apple Music still says the song is expected to be available Nov. 4, so I am not 100% sure my download will be available before that. (My guess is that's the date for the "full" single, meaning the new "Love Me Do" as well. They often release songs from albums prior to the full album.) While I am under no illusions about this--I don't expect it to be some great, top-notch Beatles song--I'm still pretty excited. I could be wrong, but I don't think they'd be releasing it if they didn't think it was truly good. I'm guessing it will be at least as good as "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love," both of which I think are quite good (though not great).

As someone who didn't even experience the Threatles reunion, it's pretty exciting to have a new Beatles single. I didn't think I'd ever be able to say that. I also haven't watched or listened to whatever snippets are out there. I'm not expecting a ton from the song, but still really looking forward to it, and of course interested to see what kind of streaming numbers it does.

While I had yet to really become a full on Beatles fan in 1995 (at that time, other than Queen, I hadn't yet gone all in on any band), the prospect of new Beatles songs was still pretty exciting. Now, nearly 30 years later, I can say its still pretty darned exciting to think of hearing a new Beatles song.

I just listened to it. I'll hold off on comments for now until others have had a chance.

My expectations aren’t sky-high because I’m familiar with the demo. It’s not really a favorite of mine, but it’s fine. To hear a Beatles version could only improve it. And I’m betting significantly. The only way I could be letdown, is if they incorporate overtly un-Beatle-y elements. Which I’m sure they won’t. Or if it were smothered in autotune or something. I gotta think that’s unlikely considering one of the main points of emphasis with the production of this single is cleaning up and extracting John’s voice.

The official audio on YouTube had 36k views when I finished listening about 3 minutes ago. It now has 51k. I'll be curious what it is in about 45 minutes, which will be its first hour.

I’m a little older but not much, so that’s why I decided it would be fun to actually go pick up a copy at the store on release day and listen for the first time on my record player. Looking forward to it! And I think I’ll actually listen to “Love Me Do” first. First then last. Or then then now. And I think it’s a nice touch that “Love Me Do” has the Parlophone label and “Now and Then” has Apple.

Just gave it a listen and I enjoyed it! About what I expected, I'll say 6.5/10. I could see bumping it up to 7/10 upon listening more. Just a few quibbles, but I'll hold off as well for now.
