Mention in the Doors thread got me thinking back to some tribute albums I've picked up over the years. I think the first ones I got were in the mid-90s, with the Zeppelin tribute Enconium (about as paint-by-numbers as it gets from what I recall) and the Hendrix tribute In From the Storm.
Any favorite tributes, most hated tributes, individual performances that stand out for better or worse?
To start with some music, here's "Drifting" from the aforementioned Hendrix one, with Steve Vai on guitar and Living Colour's Corey Glover singing. It's dramatic--the album included an orchestra, after all--but I always liked it.

For the most part, tribute albums are a flawed concept. I tended to go for them in my early 20s when I had more time to devote to listening to music. Nowadays, I'd sooner just play the originals. But, here are a few good ones.
Humanary Stew - Alice Cooper - Includes Roger Daltrey doing No More Mr Nice Guy with Slash, Ronnie James Dio doing Welcome to My Nightmare, and Bruce Dickinson doing Black Widow. This is one of many tributes from the Kulick Bros. Most are pretty disposable, but this album is quite good.
Nativity in Black - Black Sabbath - A 1994 tribute album featuring Rob Zombie, Megadeth, Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, and Type O Negative as well as appearances from Ozzy, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. A far inferior Volume 2 was released in 2000.
This is Your Life - Ronnie James Dio - Scorpions, Metallica, Halestorm, Tenacious D (yep), Anthrax, and others pay tribute to metal's greatest voice.
Stoned Immaculate - The Doors (discussed previously)
