Heard two Beach Boys songs today on the TV. First I heard “Help Me, Ronda” on episode 4 of The Bear (great show BTW), Then, on the Packers / Cowboys post game show on Fox, they showed a game montage to “God Only Knows”. I still get excited when I hear the Boys, when I’m not expecting it.

Yesterday I heard this classic blasting in the local supermarket: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life%27s_What_You_Make_It_(Talk_Talk_song)

You don’t ever hear that version in the wild.

I actually owned It’s My Life on cassette back in the day. You don’t hear them much anymore.

I like Talk Talk. I actually owned It’s My Life on cassette back in the day. You don’t hear them much anymore. I think you're more likely to hear "Such A Shame" than "LWYMI", so yes, I was surprised! I bought all five of their original albums after hearing The Colour of Spring played rather loudly on the way back from a gig in the '90s. Talk Talk (basically the brainchild of Mark Hollis) went through a fascinating evolution during the 1980s, from "synth-pop" to "post-rock" in five steps. I'll post a few favourite tracks elsewhere at BBT in due course. Please feel free to do the same!

I recently got 3 months of Sirius XM free and have gotten into the habit of listening to the Tom Petty channel on the way home from work. They mix in "records from Tom's collection" and today I heard "Do It Again" - which was a nice surprise!

Although, it did remind me that Tom wrote the liner notes for Holland after all…

Since Christmas music season is over, my local Weis went back to its rocking ways.
Last weekend, I heard Aerosmith deep cut Chip Away the Stone.
I was tempted to text an old work friend who is now the PD of a local Classic Rock station to tell him his station's playlist keeps getting its butt kicked...by a grocery store.

Check out this commercial. There was a time when you never would've expected to hear the Velvet Underground...anywhere.

I remember hearing "Perfect Day" (admittedly that's a Lou Reed song, not a VU song) behind an ad maybe 15-20 years back and thinking, that's a bold choice, using a song some say was written as a love song to heroin... (Reed said it was just a love song, btw. Not to heroin.)
It's funny how many anti-establishment, or countercultural, or supposedly anti-capitalist artists of the 60s and 70s changed their minds on that topic once the dollars got big enough or they got older. The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin... (With VU, I suspect it wasn't so much that, as that nobody would think they could help sell product: they couldn't even sell records!)

I was thinking it was an athletic shoe commercial--Nike or something?--but even that is just a guess.

Surprised Amused to hear Diana Ross's "Upside Down" at the restaurant yesterday before the volume of general chatter drowned out the rest of the evening's music. It's not my favourite Edwards–Rodgers composition/production but the semi-pro band I was in used to play it, so you might say I like it for sentimental reasons. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upside_Down_(Diana_Ross_song)
