Well, it happened. After holding the tickets for nearly three years, and after three postponements, my wife and I finally saw Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band in Baltimore last night. The band played for about two hours. The 24 song setlist was split with twelve songs from Ringo's career as a Beatle and solo artist and 12 songs from the All Stars - Edgar Winter, Steve Lukather (Toto), Colin Hay (Men at Work), and Harnish Stuart (Average White Band) got three songs a piece. Bonus, as a casual fan of Men at Work and Toto, I got to hear the three biggest songs from those groups - Roseanna, Africa, Hold the Line and Down Under, Overkill, Who Can It Be Now. Last night's setlist has not been posted yet, but it was the same song list as the night prior www.setlist.fm/setlist/ringo-starr-and-his-all-starr-band/2022/lyric-performing-arts-center-baltimore-md-1bb089b4.htmlRingo sounded pretty good overall, although his voice did croak a few times during the show. He is 82 after all. He sang nearly every song featuring a lead vocal from his Beatles career, as well as a few solo favorites like It Don't Come Easy and Photograph. Nothing from his latest run of EPs. This is why I ultimately got these tickets several years ago. For the most part, I've seen just about everybody that I really feel like I need to see (David Gilmour the lone exception, but he's not played close to me since Floyd last played DC, before I had any interest in the band). But, I knew if I didn't see Ringo, one of the two remaining Beatles, I'd regret it. Now, I've seen Paul twice (should be three times, fuckin' COVID), Ringo, and even Pete Best. I saw Ringo at Hard Rock Live in Atlantic City on September 24th, just a week prior to the cancellations. I'm so glad I went! It was a great show. Everyone in the band was fantastic. Gregg Bissonette's drum solo was incredible. I even enjoyed the non-Ringo material that I wasn't familiar with (i.e. Average White Band). Would I listen to that at home? No. But live it was fun. I wish I had reviewed it when all the details were fresh, but I at least wanted to encourage others to see Ringo & His All-Starr Band if you haven't before. Hopefully he'll be on the road again very soon. He seems to still really enjoy it. It's hard to believe that guy is 82! He looks and sounds much younger. He literally jogged onto and off the stage. At one point, near the end of the show, he was singing and clapping his hands over his head so enthusiastically, it looked like he was doing jumping jacks! Sure, part of it was about seeing Ringo Starr, the Beatle, in person, being in the same room with him, but the band also delivered a heck of a show. Oh, and another highlight for me was that they performed "I'm The Greatest". For some reason I had it in my head that they didn't perform it, but they do (and did). And the venue was great. I hadn't been there before. It wasn't too big. I'm not sure there's a bad seat. And the seats were actually comfortable. I'm just so grateful I went after skipping every previous opportunity. (I've seen Paul twice.) I'm glad you got to see, and enjoy Ringo. The cool thing about that show, for me, is that I'm a casual fan of Toto and Men at Work. I'd probably never pay to see either in concert, but getting to hear three songs from each band, done by Steve Lukather and Colin Hay respectively was pretty cool.

I mentioned an upcoming Eagles concert in Baltimore in another thread.
Tickets went on sale this morning. The cheapest ticket has a face value of $219, which would probably be closer to $250 after fees.
So, at least for the time being, that's not happening.

Between the toll concerts are taking on my ears and my wallet, I have to say no, too. I miss the experience, but I guess it's time to move on to another phase of life.

I've mentioned that Springsteen is one of the few artists I'd like to see live who I haven't yet. Although, it really wouldn't break my heart if I never saw him. He's coming to Baltimore in a couple months, and I was considering it. But, judging by this setlist, I'm less likely to spend the couple hundred dollars it would likely cost. I appreciate a diverse setlist, and Bruce seems to offer that, but I'd be pretty disappointed to pay all that money and not hear Thunder Road or Jungleland. ultimateclassicrock.com/bruce-springsteen-2023-set-list/

This will sound a little weird, but I think some of the greatness of a Springsteen concert would be lost on me. He is known for those deep set lists (though I see this seems pared down a bit from the marathons he's famous for), but while I've got a bunch of Springsteen albums and really do like him, I can't say I'm all that familiar with his catalogue.
I think I'd be sitting (ok, probably standing) there enjoying the quality of the performances, but not knowing anywhere near all of the songs, much less coming in with hopes that he'd play this or that rarity, or frustration that he left out this or that gem. Now, that sounds great ... for $50, $75, maybe even $100. But hundreds, plural? I think my ticket would be better spent on a bigger fan.

But, I'm not a big enough fan of his entire catalog to really appreciate a setlist like the one in Tampa last night. So, I pretty sure share the same attitude.

Thanks for asking.
Though they could have possibly turned it down a touch (I suppose it is a rock concert after all), the sound was otherwise as good as you can expect for the type of venue (10,000 square feet hall, capacity 480...incidentally, they played to a much larger crowd when I saw them in London some years back, so I guess the venue size is a little surprising, though I also note that they played here in Toronto last year, so perhaps that have saturated the market a little).
Performances were great and harmonies on point. It was good to see "Dr Danny" back in with the band as I understand he has previously spent some time away.
The older brother Brian did a couple of acoustic numbers near the end of the show which did provide some change of pace, however I would have enjoyed a balled or two more - I recall How Lucky Am I being a highlight on the tour I saw previously. Having said that, I do think they were otherwise able to draw from an overall stronger catalog of material compared to when I saw them in their earlier days when their only release was the Do Hollywood debut.
Amusing to see one or two instigate a mosh pit near the end, but they may be the only band I have seen where the average age of the audience was probably older than that of the band.
A friend that came along commented that he finds their lyrics a little primitive. Perhaps but I looking forward to seeing what they come up with next. They certainly seem to live and breathe music.

This thread reminded me that there's a show coming up in a week that I was thinking of going to.
The reunited lineup of Helloween, featuring classic era singer Michael Kiske and founder Kai Hansen, is playing in MD a week from today. The opening act is power metal band Hammerfall, who're one on my favorite bands of the last 25 or so years.
But, is it sad that I have no desire to go? It's a weeknight, and an hour drive.
On top of that, my wife is having minor surgery that Friday, so I'm basically going to be a single Dad for at least probably two weeks while she recovers.

I can see that: the music is so obviously nodding to the 70s and (less so) the 60s, unless they would happen to really catch on to a demographic that isn't otherwise into that, it makes some sense. They're old-friendly! It's true that their lyrics are pretty simplistic. But in a way, I like that. After all, what is rock and roll based on than I love you / you love me / I miss you / will you come back to me / and variations on those themes? For me, the biggest thing is that I just don't want them doing any more concept-type albums like Go To School. Just songs, please! (Ironically, they were apparently developing a musical TV show when they were writing this newest album, so I guess they aren't listening to my criticism.)

Agreed on the songs advocacy.

Wow, it seems like a lot of tours and shows for 2024 are being announced the last two weeks. And, I'm talking summer and fall shows. The biggest example for me was the announcement of Iron Maiden's Future past tour coming to the States next Fall, with a Baltimore stop on November 12. And tickets go on sale this Friday!! A full year and nine days prior to the show.

Tonight, I'm going to a club in Baltimore to see KK's Priest (KK Downing and Ripper Owens, formerly of Judas Priest) with opener LA Guns.
Ugh, a show on a Tuesday. I'm going through my usual concert process for a weeknight show. I almost don't want to go. But, I'm sure I'll enjoy it, and would probably regret it if I didn't go.

I know the feeling about the pre-concert thinking... Re LA Guns, they have both Tracii Guns and best-known (I know, not original...but the guy singing on their big albums) singer Phil Lewis, right? That could be a cool show.

The only time I ever saw Tracii was in the short lived Brides of Destruction with Nikki Sixx about 20 years ago.
