I got Hulu and Peacock deals that day. I already had Peacock - I like to watch SNL the next day and they get some great movies. Maybe I should drop them in the fall and see if I can get a deal in December? I got it mostly for the new Ted series. I might cancel before Thanksgiving to see if they run the same deals again.

I’m looking forward to seeing and discussing the documentary, but I don’t have any high hopes for it. I just hope it’s well-made and an enjoyable watch.
I’m considering rewatching a few of the previous documentaries in the meantime. I added a few to my DVD collection a couple of years ago that I’ve yet to watch.

At the very least, I'd like to rewatch Endless Harmony. It's been about ten years since I watched it, so it might make for a nice comparison.

I can't really take too much away from a 150 second trailer. It's interesting that they included some new talking head clips of Mike and Al, but not Brian.

OK, pessimist alert...
This is a nice trailer. Looks like it'll be a good documentary.
But what we see in the trailer is basically stuff we've seen and heard many times before, whether the subjects, the points being made about the subjects, or in some cases the actual footage.
And second ... notice anyone missing from the trailer? He isn't now and hasn't been for 40 years a particularly good interviewee, but nothing from Brian Wilson could find its way into the trailer? I hope that's just a coincidence and not a sign of things to come. (I worry that Brian's newly recorded interview footage will be minimal and pointless. I'm not saying it will be, I'm saying I worry that it will be.)
[Edit, I see kds made my point about Brian while I was typing.]

But, I'm just hoping that the doc winds up showing more, and maybe it's not aimed at those of us who've seen all the other docs before. But, I'm with you, I'm not overly optimistic that it will. And, I said this when I first watched the Long Promised Road doc. When did Don Was become Doctor Teeth?

Seeing this, I'm thinking it won't be a big deal to miss it. If more of it shows up on You Tube, I will watch it, but it appears to just be covering the same old stuff. I have An American Band, I have Endless Harmony. And I am really sick of the talking heads telling the story for the guys. It particularly drove me crazy during Endless Harmony - or was it another one, where Eric Clapton is telling us about the first time he heard "I Get Around"? I just hate the way they stick in big names that have no connection to Beach Boys music; I guess they think they have to do that to get people to watch. 'Oh yeah, there's a little bit of Help Me, Rhonda right in the middle of Crossroads". lol

I had to look up Dr. Teeth...
It's an excellent trailer. I watched it four times.
I'm trying to resign myself. Trying. Assuming it's a two-hour documentary (and we still don't know...do we?), I'm resigned that it's probably going to be similar to all of the other documentaries. You can only fit so much into so many minutes. I'd hate to be the editor (actually I'd love it ). There was just too much in the band's history to give it all due justice and attention. That's why this documentary was crying out for a multi-episode series. Some of the more important stories, issues, and, frankly, tragedies need more time/minutes devoted to them. I don't think we're going to get that this time. When's the next time?
And, now I have to look up Ryan Tedder.

I just looked it up on IMDB to see if a run time is posted yet, and so far, not yet.
Considering The Beach Boys by The Beach Boys book apparently stops at 1980, I wonder if the doc might do the same. There was a recent documentary on Alice Cooper that did the same, stopping the story with his late 80s "comeback." Maybe it would work to the doc's favor to allow more details to the prime years (assuming it is a two hour or so doc) rather than a brisk run through of the last 35 years.

And, now I have to look up Ryan Tedder. 1. Nope, we don't know. We've all just been speculating since it hasn't been described as multipart, and a typical running time would be roughly feature-length, so probably about 90-120 minutes. 2. Pretty big-time songwriter and producer, actually (in modern music, past 20 years or so). Lots and lots of dance-oriented pop stuff in there, but also everything from former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell to Taylor Swift to Paul McCartney to John Legend to Adele.

Considering The Beach Boys by The Beach Boys book apparently stops at 1980, I wonder if the doc might do the same. My money is on nope, because a certain key band member's favorite moment (aside from his 1968 trip to Rishikesh with--did you hear!?--the Beatles) happened in the late 1980s... It would let them conveniently ignore trying to fire and sue one another on more than one occasion, though, not to mention their almost total absence from creating new music. Four really new Beach Boys albums in in 40-odd years, one of which was half oldies and one of which was absolute dreck entirely lacking Brian Wilson.

OK, I'm up to six views now.
I'm guessing it will probably go past 1980, but there are no film clips in the trailer post-1980. They could've placed three seconds of "Kokomo" into the trailer. Seriously. I'm surprised they didn't. There is one slide that says "six decades" but that doesn't guarantee anything. There's a lot to cover post-1980. I don't care how few albums they released in that time frame (a shot at the book ).
I'm hoping Paul McCartney's comments are filmed but the trailer only shows a photo. I mean, why couldn't they get a new, filmed interview from Paul?
And, every time that "God Only Knows" intro comes on I get a little emotional.

Perhaps, they could still conclude with the 80s, highlighting their DC shows, Live Aid, and Kokomo. I'm just spitballing, but if we're getting the "definitive" doc, I'm honestlt fine if we get more details on the 70s if it means an American Graffiti / Animal House style epilogue of everything post Kokomo. I mean, the only thing after Kokomo worth mentioning at all is C50/TWGMTR. And, I think its pretty unlikely we'd get anything worthwhile on that anyway.
