YES! Finally! This is exciting news.
No word in the little article the extent of the doc. I suppose it is just a standalone (as opposed to a docuseries) in that it doesn't mention it being 2 parts, 3 parts, etc. So that means it's probably just about two hours long (he wildly speculates).
It's been a long time coming, though, and so I am happy. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

My biggest hope is they give more than a few minutes of coverage to the 1976-2012 timeframe.

Oh wow, that was unexpected, and just under two months away to boot. Just in time for the start of summer!!

I'm a little surprised they couldn't get Elton John and Paul McCartney to do a quick interview. They're by far the most famous Beach Boys fans. I wouldn't imagine they're keeping them under wraps. Then again, John Stamos isn't mentioned either and I'd be really surprised if he isn't a part of it.

I wonder if this doc will get a tangible home release.
I know it'll be available to stream whenever, but considering I have DVDs of American Band, I Just Wasn't Made For These Times, Endless Harmony, Brian Wilson On Tour, Classic Albums - Pet Sounds, Beautiful Dreamer, Doin It Again, and Long Promised Road on my DVD shelf, it would feel odd to not add this.

Yeah, I don't get Disney or anything like that. I would grab a DVD immediately, but it seems the new way is just to put them up on Disney, Netflix.

We're currently sharing Disney+ with one of my wife's relatives, although I'm sure we're on borrowed time with that.

Disney+ comes with my cable service, but I still prefer a physical media release (DVD or BluRay) that I can play whenever I want to, instead of having to rely on the whims of streaming service or Internet availability.

I feel the same on this one. It's part of my Hulu/ESPN package, and I'll gladly watch it upon release there ... but things come and go to and from streaming services (whether music or video) all the time. Physical media are available for much longer.

Let's hope there's enough response to it that it gets a physical release. I got the Beatles Get Back DVD set from my library several months after it aired on Disney. I wasn't even sure it was on DVD; none of the usual stores - Wal Mart, Target, etc - had it. As it turns out, getting it from the library was enough. It was kind of frustrating, no complete songs till the very end, the rooftop performance. It was interesting to watch once, but if I want the songs, I put on my old Let it Be VHS. Endless Harmony did a better job of telling the story of the Beach Boys than An American Band, but I find I watch the latter more because the emphasis there is on the music.

I don't subscribe to Disney+ so I await future developments with interest.

Interesting, because I don't weigh that into the equation at all for these kinds of things: for full songs, I want concert films or albums. I hate when documentaries "waste time" (as I experience it) playing the music in full. Playing the music is fine to reference or emphasize some point being made, but mostly I want interviews. Or in the case of Get Back, the footage of conversation, rehearsals, discussions.
