APRIL 9 In 1965 Bruce debuts in Brian's place onstage in LA in a spare set of Alan's trousers three sizes too small
I may have imagined it, but I thought I read somewhere recently that the pants story was apocryphal. A great pity if it is!

I may have imagined it, but I thought I read somewhere recently that the pants story was apocryphal. A great pity if it is! Technically, Bruce replaced Glen Campbell on stage who replaced Brian on stage. But, as both Glen and Bruce would say, nobody replaces Brian Wilson.

APRIL 11 Carl, Brian and Bruce record the final vocals for "God Only Knows" [in 1966]. Is this Bruce's finest hour?

Wow, Brian was on a roll! From "Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)" to "God Only Knows" to "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times". The latter has been described as autobiographical. Did Brian, at that time (4/13/66), really feel that he wasn't made for those times?

APRIL 16 [1966] Beach Boys Today! enters the UK charts. It will peak at #6 The Beach Boys Today! has always been in my Top 5 Beach Boys' albums, sometimes as high as Top 3. Consistently great - GREAT! - songwriting throughout the album. However, I'll always wish "All Dressed Up For School" and/or "Guess "I'm Dumb" would've been included and "Bull Session With Big Daddy"...not.

The Strawberry Alarm Clock recorded one of the great psychedelic, Summer Of Love, Beach Boys Meets The Doors single with "Incense And Peppermints". And it hasn't aged at all: That newspaper article is a hoot!! It's funny you say it hasn't aged, because my impression of that tune has only ever always been that it sounds so, so dated. However, I agree with you entirely that the article is funny. And some things never change: I regularly read music sites' reviews of shows or albums and notice them snarkily comment on how something seems so passe, so "five years ago" (as if trends were the important thing, over quality).

APRIL 24 Panned by the critics from day one, "Good Vibrations - The Musical" ends its 14-month run on Broadway in 2005 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Vibrations_(musical)(My late penpal and AJ fan wrote a heart-warming BB musical that's never been performed. I'll post my review of the script some time.)

APRIL 24 Panned by the critics from day one, "Good Vibrations - The Musical" ends its 14-month run on Broadway in 2005 I know there's been a few Beach Boys-related plays/musicals, but I've never seen one. Anybody ever see one? I'm sure there will be more - maybe even a major one - in the years to come.
