Well, a KISS biopic featuring heavy involvement from Gene and Paul is in our future. I predict the portrayal of Ace and Peter will be right up there with the "Brian Wilson" from the second half of American Family. ultimateclassicrock.com/kiss-biopic-netflix/

"Kiss’ Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will reportedly be closely involved in the making of Shout It Out Loud, which will focus on the two bandleaders’ upbringing in Queens, N.Y., the forging of their unlikely friendship and the genesis of their world-conquering band."
I can just imagine how this is going to go... Gene and Paul will decide on a "heavy Beatles" sound; Ace and Peter will oppose it. Gene and Paul will decide to try the makeup approach; Ace and Peter will oppose it. Gene and Paul will want to promote the group as four equal songwriters and performers; Ace and Peter will oppose it. And so on.

Ace is already kind of a cartoon character in real life. I can only imagine movie Ace is just going to be stumbling around, chugging from a whiskey bottle (or will they use KISS's Cold Gin?).

KISS after KISS...or KISS 2.0?

I believe both Paul and Gene have said that before, and from a business perspective, obviously it makes sense! Keep raking in revenues deep into old age...honestly it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Wouldn't really appeal to me, either, but wouldn't bother me.
Ace's comment in the story about how it's ridiculous, how the Stones couldn't carry on without Mick and Keith, I don't think it's the same thing. KISS were always characters, always cartoons. And frankly the music is so rudimentary, it's not as if it were some highly idiosyncratic, unique, and hard-to-replicate sound.
One funny thing to note from the article, they say Thayer and Singer replaced Frehley and Criss. Well ... kinda. But more like Thayer replaced Frehley who replaced Kulick who replaced St. John who replaced Vincent who replaced Frehley; and Singer replaced Criss who replaced Carr who replaced ghost-drumming Fig who replaced Criss.

I've heard Gene say the same thing, and why not? They're already halfway there.
I suppose if this happens, Gene or Paul will spin the current "Farewell" tour as the farewell for Gene and Paul. They said something similar about the 2000 Farewell Tour, that it was the "farewell for the original KISS."

On this date in 1999, the KISS sanctioned comedy Detroit Rock City was released.
Set in 1977, it follows four HS stoners and their misadventures on a quest to see KISS. Its a fun movie, with a killer soundtrack.
Unfortunately, it was released around the same time as American Pie. The later turned into a lucrative franchise while the former exists somewhere between a curio and cult classic.
Personally (hot take alert) I like it better than the other 70s period teen comedy from the 90s, Dazed and Confused. Both are solid with great soundtracks. But, I think DRC is funnier, even if it wasn't quite the spring board to stardom that D&C was for its young cast. At least Detroit Rock City features the titular song.

I wasn't really sure to put this in the KISS or Van Halen thread. But, here we go www.blabbermouth.net/news/gene-simmons-doesnt-know-what-happened-to-david-lee-roth/So, apparently, David Lee Roth wasn't good enough to open for KISS on their latest version of their Farewell Tour. Comparing Roth to a bloated Elvis Presley corpse? This, coming from a guy in a band made up of two guys posing as original members with a primary singer, Paul Stanley, whose vocals are a little worse for the wear in recent years. To me, this is another middle finger to fans. I don't think anyone expects to see Roth doing splits off the drum risers anymore. And, let's be honest, he was never that great of a singer, it was always about the personality, and the show. But, in the wake of Eddie's death, having Roth open for KISS gave fans a chance to hear those VH classics in person. And Dave is really the only one flying that flag. Wolfie's not doing any VH in his sets. Sammy and Mike will do some Van Hagar era material.

I feel bad for those fans. But at least he is apparently not experiencing any symptoms.

And, apparently, Gene Simmons has apologized to David Lee Roth.
He should apologize to fans. I'd much rather watch an over the hill DLR sing some Van Halen songs than watch a "performance painter."

It seems the "deluxe reissue" is a concept KISS was born to exploit. Surprisingly tame. I'd have expected a pair of 7" dragon-tooth platform shoes to come with it!
I wouldn't spend any money on KISS (having given them plenty when I was a teenager), but once it's released, I will give those demos a listen. Some of those titles come up later on Gene's 1978 solo album, I'd be curious to hear how he envisioned them as KISS songs a few years earlier.
I never got into their demos, outtakes, etc., by the way. When I was really a fan, such things just weren't available to me. And by the time the internet spread the access around, I just didn't care enough to look. All I ever experienced were the final products--and most of the good ones of those, well after the fact. So I'm sure there are things here that collectors would be well aware of, but since 15-year-old me wasn't, 45-year-old me isn't.

This morning while looking through the new releases on iTunes, I saw an album that had a familiar visual style to it, though I didn't recognize the band name or the album name. (In fact, I wasn't sure which was which.)
Turns out it's Klassik 78, a group that is basically a pastiche of mid-70s KISS, and their new album Phantoms. It's actually borderline astounding how similar they are, with singers imitating Paul, Gene, and Ace (at least ... not sure whether there's a Peter). The songs are new, so it's not exactly a tribute band. Like I said, you'd have to say it' a KISS pastiche band.
I won't say it's something I'd be interested in enough to ever really give it a serious listen or buy any of it--the old KISS is probably all the KISS I need--but I did think it was at least of passing interest. These guys must really like their Rock And Roll Over era KISS!
Here is a playlist of some of their songs.
