I guess I'm like everyone else in that I never listen to this album and probably haven't listened to it in full since the Unplugged release. With that said, I enjoy a lot of their takes on classic songs, just without the chatter. I gave it a 7, but can I really do that if I only listen to the Unplugged versions?

The only time I really recall a lot of praise showered onto Party was when the expanded Party / Unplugged release came out in 2015. But, that could be because just about every new product / re-release (unless it's a Mike Love album) was often treated like the Holy Grail on some of the forums I used to visit. Yeah, there's usually a ton of hype around most releases, but how often do people return to them? I know that set has its fans, though, because a lot of BBs fans cite the party sound effects as a major criticism of the original album. Personally, I like Party as it is, so I've never given a proper listen to the expanded version. I've skimmed it. Some interesting cover choices, but seems like a bunch of scraps for the most part. I think they put the best bits on the album. I got a copy for Christmas that year, and I have listened to it....once. And it's highly unlikely I'd listen to it again. I do like some of the unused covers. For example, I'd have probably opted for Satisfaction over either You've Got to Hide Your Love Away or The Times They Are a Changin'. I've said it before, but I do find it a tad odd how releases are chosen for digital only or physical release. I'd have though the live shows from 1964 and 1965 would've been better physical releases than an expanded version of Party. But, in the land of the Boys from Hawthorne, it's best not to try to look for logic in such things.

I’m going 7 for Party. I love it, and when I feel like listening to the Beach Boys but I can’t decide, it’s one of my go-to’s. That's interesting! Recently, I'd been considering creating a thread like that. Party, specifically, isn't necessarily a go-to, but the early Beach Boys albums, collectively, are. I've had Surfin' USA - Today on my phone for a few years now, so those are most accessible and the ones I choose from, but the same would certainly apply to SDSN and Party (not so much Surfin' Safari due to its production). On a side note: I think it's helped me appreciate the instrumentals more. I'm not always listening closely, sometimes I'm just looking for background music. In that setting, it works. I like that thread idea I think what makes Party one of my go-to's is that I just find it an easy, casual listen. I don't need to dim the lights and pour myself a drink and lay on the floor and close my eyes and have a spiritual experience.

I actually sat down and listened to this again, and actually (surprisingly) my opinion of it went down. Same basic assessment, just even cooler on it than I thought I was. I gave it a 3.
I actually wish it didn't exist. I'd rather they had put some serious effort into an acoustic, bare-bones arrangement album, or just skip it altogether.

Well, we only got it because Capitol wanted some material to release. Barbara Ann being a hit was a fluke as well. I'll take what we got over nothing, though. I agree that it would have been better to just have an actual, normal acoustic album.

I gave it seven. I like "There's No Other" (a lot) and the Everlys cover (a little) and that's about it.
That glorious racket "Barbara Ann" is one of my favourite BB 45's and the only one I ever bought. Never cared for the album version though.

Party! has been rated a 5.88 by eight voters. Ouch! Considering I'm the one who gave it a 3, I think it's inflated!

The irony is that no one voted it a '6', so it must be right.

I care so little for this album that i never listened to the unplugged release. I saw a copy in my local library, looked at it, but it just didn't interest me, not when there is so much better stuff to listen to, like Sunshine Tomorrow. And even that i don't play very much now. In the end, i always go back to the original albums.
