Neil Young speaks to Howard Stern about Spotify:
I think Neil is "dog ears". I'm not an audiophile. I hear people complain endlessly that "this format sounds like shit, that format sounds like shit", "ooh, vinyl, how can you tolerate all the clicks and pops", "cd's = loudness wars/compression". I just like music. I'm not rich, I don't have thousands of dollars to spend on audio equipment. I don't presently use Spotify, I didn't like that it seemed to slow down my laptop. I had no complaint about the sound. I suppose Neil never buys old records at antique malls and used record stores.

Now Neil Young tells Q's Tom Power that he won't tour anymore unless the venues are "clean." This apparently means using sustainable power sources and--he says more problematically--serves only farm-to-table food, not factory-farmed food.
I'm curious how he can make the power "clean," though, since I'd bet close to zero venues run on renewables. Maybe he means he's got his own personal "credits" by otherwise having a negative carbon footprint?
Regardless, this kind of purity that Young seems to seek through his advocacy is a recipe for being a solitary figure. Much like his (brief) war with Spotify, when he didn't want to be associated with the unclean, a person's quest for purity can leave him all alone in the wilderness, where he can give himself high-fives for his godliness and sing his own praises for an audience of one.
In other words, it's not a model for real life. Zealotry is not admirable.

I think all of these guys are getting a bit "out of it" in their senior years. Neil's always been, as Crosby says, "stranger than a snakes suspenders"; I suspect that Neil just doesn't feel up to touring anymore. It's hard work, it's a young man's game. Crosby pisses everybody off. That doesn't surprise me. But Nash leaving his wife of many years, Susan, to run off with a much younger woman, that was a shock to me.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Crosby.
This David Gilmour song, A Boat Lies Waiting, was his tribute to the late Richard Wright. From his 2015 Rattle That Lock album, it features Crosby, along with Graham Nash, on backing vocals.

Thank You! I saw it on Hoffman - but I did notice that Wikipedia had not been changed though. The Yahoo link to the article has also disappeared.

Looks like the BBC and Variety have confirmed it as well as an update to Wikipedia - so now - I don’t know.

I was just driving home from work and a radio station played two Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young songs back-to-back, which is not unusual for that station. Then they played a third...
Yes, Kapitan, the Variety obituary is excellent. I'd like to take Graham Nash's quote from that article and post it separately. I think it sums up David Crosby's life and legacy very well:
Former CSNY partner Graham Nash, who had been estranged from Crosby in recent years as their group went its separate ways, paid tribute on his social media. “It is with a deep and profound sadness that I learned that my friend David Crosby has passed. I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another, and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years. David was fearless in life and in music. He leaves behind a tremendous void as far as sheer personality and talent in this world. He spoke his mind, his heart, and his passion through his beautiful music and leaves an incredible legacy. These are the things that matter most. My heart is truly with his wife, Jan, his son, Django, and all of the people he has touched in this world.”

Dang, sad news. I've got Crosby & Nash's 1977 live album on right now. Lively performances from the band, Graham, and David. It's become a favorite of mine in recent years.

David was part of the soundtrack of our courtship back in 1974. We were hitch-hiking in France that year and came across a fairground engine with the word "TRACTION" emblazoned on it. And it was raining. Rest in peace, sir, and thank you:
