My hometown has its first confirmed case of the coronavirus - less than a mile from my house - at a veterans' medical center.
Are all of you still working (your job)...in some manner?

Minneapolis is around 90 confirmed cases, up from 4 a week ago...and presumably we have many more, as community spread has been confirmed and tests are still not widely available.
I am still working, though it has been from home since a week ago today. In fact the past couple of days I am finding myself working harder and later than usual, which is kind of annoying! I'm trying to take time to go for walks and such to keep from going totally insane (and gaining 50 lbs) but struggling to get away.
Hope everyone and their loved ones are feeling well.

I'm getting used to this working from home thing, getting into the swing of it. Unfortunately, yesterday my coworker who sits next to me at the office informed us all that she's experiencing the symptoms, so she went to get tested and now she's waiting on the results. I really hope she's going to be okay (and that she wasn't infected while we were still in the office).

As if things didn't feel strange enough, the population of my town is growing. People who usually come down in the summer (mostly from north Jersey and NYC) are coming down now. The streets are bustling. Alarming, considering New York has the most coronavirus cases in the US by far.

Really clear, visual representations of some facts (as best we know them) about the pandemic.

Ohio will be under a stay at home order starting tomorrow night. Although to me, it sounds more like a strongly worded suggestion of what they've already asked of everyone.

Our governor acknowledged seriously considering the same order on Friday, though so far it isn't in place. It's just hanging over us the past few days. Honestly I wish they'd just go all-out, the sooner the better. Get it started so we can get it over with.

Minnesota's governor, Tim Walz, is in self-quarantine after having been in contact with someone with COVID-19. He reports having no symptoms.
The husband of Sen. Klobuchar, John Bessler, is hospitalized in Virginia with COVID-19. (He is a law professor in Baltimore.)
And our Lt. Governor's brother died of COVID-19 in Tennessee.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin has just ordered non-essential businesses to close, following shortly on the heels of Illinois. Everyone is expecting Minnesota to follow suit, possibly as early as today.

Being self-quarantined has been a very humbling and eye-opening experience. It's making me think how many people living in nursing homes and retirement homes live, with having to stay confined (inside a small living area or even just a room), not being able to go outside into society, and not experiencing people (though it is possible to form some relationships with other residents and staff).
It also makes me think what it's like to be retired, and how important it is to have hobbies, friends, and just places to go. I know is sounds weird, but I actually miss the routine of going into the office, talking with co-workers, and being productive. Just going to the store to pick something up. Going to church on Sunday. Basically living. I'm seeing first hand how just sitting around the house can be unhealthy both physically and mentally. I'm at that age where I'm starting to think about life after work (I really don't like to use the word retirement) and this past week has really hit home.

I agree with you completely, SJS. Coincidentally our office has been discussing options as our lease is coming up, and one involved a good number of us working from home permanently or at least more frequently to enable a smaller office footprint. I was already not too fond of it but now (like several others) am pretty strongly opposed.
I appreciate the freedom of being able to work from home, but I'd dread it full time. I'm finding it hard even to get up and get away to take walks, etc., which is surprising to me. I wouldn't have thought that to be the case, but for some reason or other, it is.
There are going to be a lot of mental health issues coming out of this pandemic, as well as physical ones. Depression, anxiety, addiction.
Hope everyone is hanging in there.

I've worked purely at home for two decades now. I love it. I had this office job in the '90s but nothing beats the home life in my book. It starts with a walk with the dog. Next up is checking out and posting at the music forums, by which time it's my coffee break. Then some work (not too much) and then it's lunch time. Another visit to the forums by which time it's my tea break (actually, more coffee--I can't stand tea). Then a spot more work and it's happy hour. Then I fix a meal (or crackers if my wife's cooking) and the day rolls inexorably to an end. Seriously though... yes, this is going to crush a lot of folks. I'm lucky with a wonderful partner--my heart goes out to those on their own right now. Thanks for the kind words, Cap'n. I hope it works out well for you at the office. Edit: And yes, SJS, I have work right now and it's a godsend. Good to hear everyone here is in good health.

A little levity never did any harm. In fact right now it can only do good...

Our public transit system is reducing service by 40%, and the governor made a statement including the estimate that 40-80% of Minnesotans are likely to get the virus. While it has been trending that direction incrementally, we still don't have a shelter-in-place order or shutdown of nonessential businesses.

While it has been trending that direction incrementally, we still don't have a shelter-in-place order or shutdown of nonessential businesses. Maryland shut down "non essential" businesses. I put that in quotes because the list is businesses still open is quite long. And, despite our Governor wagging his finger at people still going out, he has still yet to enact a shelter in place order. I feel like this is only going to make this go on and on and on.

Yesterday, states of emergency were called in Toronto city and in the community I live in immediately north, and Premier Doug Ford has ordered the closing of all essential services in the province. And yet social distancing is still only just being encouraged, rather than a shelter in place order being given. These incremental measures don't really make a whole lot of sense to me. Although with states of emergency being called, I think it's likely a matter of days before more severe measures are taken.
