kds, I didn't know if you caught this:
I had not seen that, thanks. It's funny that they included the Truckster from the first movie. I know Chase and Beverly D'Angelo reprised their roles for some Old Navy ads a few years ago.

In the spirit of A Christmas Story, it seems one of our local pizza chains has a special seasonal pizza: the Little Ralphie.
Its description:
"We triple dog dare you to make this “major award” of a pizza a part of your “Christmas Story". Hand-tossed crust brushed with olive oil and topped with mozzarella cheese, pecan smoked ham, juicy chunks of fresh sliced pineapple, fresh jalapeño, roasted red pepper, dollops of whipped cream cheese, sliced green onion and finished with a drizzling of spiced honey. Don’t shoot your eye out with this son of a gun!"

I don't know about that one. But, speaking of pizza, there's a little pizza shop that opened not too far from me called L'il Neros. I've been thinking of ordering a plain cheese pizza from them next time I'm Home Alone, and having my VHS of Angels with Filthy Souls ready to go when the delivery guy shows up.

The latest big screen version of The Grinch is coming out this month. A horror version called The Mean One. This is the latest in a trend of turning more family friend fare into horror. It's also been done recently with Fantasy Island and Winnie the Pooh. I'm not sure how much interest I really have in a horror version of The Grinch, but I'm willing to bet I'd enjoy it more than the 2000 Ron Howard movie.

Yesterday, during my day off, I made time to watch Home Alone in its entirely for the first time in six years. I really need to make that one an annual watch.
That's two full length Christmas movies I've watched so far this year (with A Christmas Story Christmas), which is actually pretty good for me of late, especially considering it's only December 6. I might actually be able to fit in two or three more.

While at a bookstore this weekend, I heard a handful of Christmas songs over their sound system. One of them has entered the regular rotation in recent years, and I still can't understand why: "Hallelujah," by Leonard Cohen.
Can someone explain to me how this song, which doesn't mention or seem in any way to be about Christmas, written by a Buddhist-influenced Jewish man with mystical leanings, has become a Christmas song?

I can't explain that one either. But, it seems like a fairly recent association. I think the first time I remember hearing that song at Christmas time was when the acapella group Pentatonix included it on one of their Christmas albums.

Every so often it seems another song pops up in some Christmas collection that is an odd fit. My mind immediately goes to an album we've mentioned before, Merry Axemas, the 1997 guitar-focused Christmas album. It included among "Joy to the World," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," etc., "Amazing Grace" (played by Jeff Beck). It comes from the same religious tradition, of course, but isn't really a Christmas song in any real way.
But that was a one-off. "Hallelujah" seems widespread.

Maybe there's a very militant movement on the internet to make it a Christmas movie, ala the Die Hard is a Christmas movie crowd.

Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of the release of The Muppets Christmas Carol.
I actually didn't see the movie back then. I was 12, and had pretty much checked out on The Muppets by then. I finally saw it around 2013 or 2014, and have loved it ever since.
Last night, my wife and I watched it. Apparently, there's an extended version on Disney+ which includes an extra song called When Love is Lost from the Christmas Past sequence. This was left out of the original theatrical version (which is the version I have) because Disney thought it was too sad, but it was included on the VHS editions, and early full frame DVD releases.
I've watched the scene in question, and personally, I'm fine the original theatrical cut, minus that song.
