I don't know if anyone else saw the clickbaity articles accusing Queen of bowing down to "woke" culture for leaving Fat Bottomed Girls off the latest version of their Greatest Hits, but it turns out there is a perfectly logical explanation. ultimateclassicrock.com/queen-fat-bottomed-girls-greatest-hits-missing/The new version is for a kid friendly streaming service called Yoto. A friend of mine--the one I've mentioned who is obsessed with antiwoke stuff--sent me a Fox story about that today. My first thought was, it's HILARIOUS that Fox is championing this song and bemoaning its "cancelation" from a streaming service. So Fox, the historically conservative, buttoned-down, champions of family values, REALLY thought that a song about a young boy's sexual infatuation with his adult nanny's ass (and potential statutory rape, to be blunt) was a song that simply must be heard by all? Hell, if you showed someone there "I Want to Break Free," they'd probably try to get it canceled for "grooming." It shows how stupid all this crap is, they just pick and choose their battles for convenience of the moment. (Because, yeah, Fox no doubt just LOVES the hypersexual, bisexual, coke-snorting Freddie Mercury...Mmmm-hmm.) And like you said, it's for a children's service! The song isn't being canceled, nobody is censoring Queen. I'm sure Queen's management/team/whatever was fully in on the decision. It makes sense. Maybe sexual songs about asses just don't really belong on a children's service! People need to relax.

I didn't know Fox came to Queen's defense, which, if you really think about it, is very, very funny. I wonder if they'd have anything to say about the video for I Want to Break Free, featuring all four bandmembers in drag, getting banned on MTV. Anyway, I thought it was interesting that a UK rag ran with the "woke" angle. I thought the whole "woke" thing was uniquely American.

Last night, I saw Queen + Adam Lambert in Baltimore. It was a terrific show. I honestly don't get the hate this gets from Queen fans. One of the common derps I've read is "Lambert is over the top." Its Queen for chrissakes. One of the more over the top rock bands of all time.
This was my second time seeing Brian and Roger. I saw them with Paul Rodgers in 2006. I'm a fan of Paul's work, but this was a better show. For one, Adam's a better fit. And, its a 100% Queen filled setlist. With Rodgers, they did 5-6 songs from his catalog.
I noticed they use Freddie less too. In 2006, when they did Bohemian Rhapsody, the first two verses were Freddie on the video board. While a nice tribute, I prefer the live vocals. Freddie did make a couple video cameos during Love of My Life and his "Ay Oh!" bit. Also with some taped intros, like the intro to You Take My Breath Away which segued into Who Wants to Live Forever.
The setlist was a nice mix of Queen classics. Unfortunately, the first two albums were ignored, but that's not unusual. Despite not being part of a medley, Killer Queen was still truncated. I don't believe the full song has ever been done live. I was glad to finally hear I Want It All in person. Its been a mainstay in their 21st Century setlists, but was left off the set at the show I attended in 2006. No real surprises or super deep cuts, except maybe Is This the World We Created. I'd actually like to see them dip into The Miracle and Innuendo more, since those albums were never toured.
In total, it was a setlist of just over two hours. A great night.

I saw this morning that they'd kicked off their new tour but didn't realize where it was, or that you'd been there. That's awesome. I honestly don't get the hate this gets from Queen fans. One of the common derps I've read is "Lambert is over the top." Its Queen for chrissakes. One of the more over the top rock bands of all time. This is hilarious. Queen fans don't want the lead singer to be over the top? Really? Man, they must have really hated Queen from 1973-91, then, with that prancing, flamboyant so-and-so out there hamming it up for the cameras and fans... If you want a version of Queen to continue, Adam Lambert is one of the best possible people to front the group. (Yes, George Michael probably would have been fantastic in those first years after Freddie's death, and I'm sure there are others who could do a decent job.) He's got a great voice, first and foremost, but he's also got the exact kind of dramatic, almost cartoonish pomp that the job requires.

When I saw Q&AL in 2019, it was hands down the best show I had ever seen. I haven’t been to many concerts since then, but it’s still true. Joyous and moving, and spectacular. Whatever someone’s taste or opinion of Adam Lambert might be, his energy, singing and performance abilities are undeniable. He was an absolute joy to watch and listen to and I do think he’s the right person to help keep those songs alive, along with Brian and Roger. I’ll miss them on this tour (I believe they’ll actually be in Toronto this long weekend) but your post very much inspired me to want to start listening to Queen again, and revisiting my photos and memories of the concert I was lucky enough to see.

Actually, Ticketmaster's bots kept me from getting a ticket to the first show, but thankfully, a second date was added.

While listening to Edvard Grieg and reading today, I had quite the surprise: suddenly I heard the melody to Queen's "March of the Black Queen"! And I don't just mean something kind-of similar, I mean a full measure of the same melody, nearly same rhythm. Check it out, it happens immediately (and is written in the left hand). I realized I couldn't possibly be the first person to realize this, so I checked the album's wiki page. Surprisingly, there is no mention of the similarity.

That's the same setlist they played when I saw them. Although, Machines was just a portion of the studio song played as an intro. They also now play the vocal intro to Bohemian Rhapsody (albeit on tape), but Queen never used that intro in concert before, neither the original band, or Queen + Paul Rodgers.
