I caved in and voted for TWW. I did too! I think I have met my twin.

The board has voted in a dark horse, the #15 overall seeded "All Summer Long," as the song most warranting Top 25 hit status that didn't achieve it. ASL beat the #1 overall seed "This Whole World" 6-3.
This matchup ends the contest. I thought it was fun taking a look at the hit potential of these songs and debating what that--"hit potential"--even means.
Thanks for participating.

Thank you, Kapitan, for coming up with the idea and then running the contest! We appreciate the time and effort you put into it. I enjoyed it. It's always fun to discuss Beach Boys' songs, and this exercise gave us a unique perspective to explore. Now, what do you have in mind next?

That was fun. I feel like All Summer Long is the most deserving choice as much as I love (and in some cases prefer) the other songs from the poll.

I actually get this one. It is a travesty that one of the best Beach Boys songs of any era, was never given the chance to be a hit. I do like ASL better than most of the earlier singles releases. It never had a chance to achieve hit status. It’s a darned shame. I had to vote for TWW, but I’m not mad that ASL took the title, given its greatness and circumstances. The Boys never realized what they had there.

Assuming we're correct with our voting , The Beach Boys literally missed out on another Top Ten (maybe Top Five) hit by not choosing "All Summer Long" as a single in 1964. As mentioned earlier in the thread, Capitol went with Four By The Beach Boys - and even that EP didn't include "All Summer Long". Consequently, the group started featuring "Wendy" more prominently. Also, I always felt "All Summer Long" was a questionable choice as the opening song on the All Summer Long album. It would've worked much better as the last song on Side 1 or as the closing track.

So if we're going to make All Summer Long a single, which one does it replace? You can only flood the market with so many releases - unless you're the Beatles in 1964.
