I usually toy with the idea of looking up a hot rum punch recipe for Christmas, but I almost always forget.

While I am still technically working today and tomorrow before taking a pretty nice, long holiday break (until Jan. 2), I have to be honest--and this is one reason to remain anonymous online!--I'm really, really slacking right now.
The past two days were busier than I'd expected, and some of that was just because other people were trying to push work off their plates before their holidays began. I was finding myself on unnecessary calls, or doing last-minute proposals, etc. But assuming I'm able to manage it (because of course if legit work pops up that needs attention, I'll do it), it's going to be a pretty lax day and a half before my break.

I'm guilty as well. But, apparently not the only one. Its been nearly two hours since I've received an email. That's unheard of. I even checked the connection.
I was up kinda late wrapping gifts last night. It's Dec 20, and I can say I'm pretty darn close to ready.

'T'was the night before the night before Christmas, and out on the street there's not even one snowflake: it's fifty degrees!
OK, I won't finish the poem. But it is 50 degrees out there, with a strange, springlike fog in the air. But, so soon after the solstice, it is already dark, which makes it winterlike. My family's celebration is tomorrow, which is also supposed to be warm and possibly rainy. I will say, considering I'm driving about 90 miles and back, rain is better than its colder cousin.
Hope everyone's holiday weekend is off to a good start.

I'm slightly annoyed that my wife's last present will not arrive until, according to UPS, Dec 25 at 9pm (sounds less than accurate). Considering my wife and I exchange gifts on Christmas Eve Night, that's less than ideal.
But, what can you do?
We got together with my wife's family today.
Christmas Eve should be fairly relaxing. We're hitting one more train garden early in the day. Then, I'm grilling Christmas Eve dinner. Once our son goes down, my wife and I will exchange gifts, then watch Charlie Brown and Garfield.

My daughter gets me. She gave me the red vinyl Beach Boys Christmas album for my Christmas present Friday night and we listened to it while opening presents. Sounds so much better than my other vinyl versions of this album. It is clean and clear and everything I want from this album. Does anyone here have the green vinyl? Wanting to know if it is as awesome.

The first song on the CBS Morning Show staff Christmas video was “Little Saint Nick”! Merry Christmas everyone! Got my Kansas City Chiefs onesie on, waiting for the game!

Currently enjoying Ringo's fun 1999 Christmas album, I Wanna Be Santa Claus. Here's a very fitting song selection for Ringo!

This 2023 Christmas season was probably as close to perfect as a parent of a six year old could hope for.
Starting in Mid November, we did a ton of Christmas activities, and had a blast. Years ago, I'd have been reluctant to start celebrating nearly two weeks before Thanksgiving, but I'm glad we do, because it just goes so fast.
We did train gardens, light displays, a bizaar, Breakfast with Santa, and even the Pentatonix Christmas Tour.
I was also able to revive my old grilling on Xmas Eve tradition this year.
As always I'm sad to see the Christmas season slowly fade into memory, but this is one of those Christmas seasons I'll look back on very fondly.

It occurred to me (though I guess it should have been so obvious as to not require any special "occurred to me") that we're coming up on NYE in a few days, the unofficial end of the Christmas season, in my opinion.
While I was getting a haircut the other day, the stylist asked about my NYE plans. I had to admit I have none: I'm afraid I more or less gave up on any actual celebrations that evening years ago. I think the last time I went out to a party was about 10 years ago! I am truly getting old... But really, I just don't even like the sound of it anymore, going to overpriced and overcrowded events with a bunch of amateur drinkers wanting to get crazy. Ugh. In all honesty, I'll probably fall asleep before the ball drops.

I also see NYE / NYD as the end of the Christmas Season (even if my Catholic upbringing says Jan 6).
I've been over going out on NYE since I was 31. After a night of being in an overcrowded bar with increasingly drunk and annoying people, I swore I was done.
But.....by the next year, I'd met my now wife, as seeing it was our first NYE as a couple, we went out. That was 2012, and the last time.
We've spent the last ten NYE's on the couch. We'll typically watch a movie, and have some drinks, then put on the network TV crap fest til midnight.
New Year's Day is usually spent taking down Christmas stuff. While there's something to be said of getting back to routine, it's still a depressing task.

I find New Year's Day a little depressing, too. In my younger days, that is because I was often recovering from a wild night. But now it's more that I generally return to work on Jan. 2 (depending on the calendar), my first day back in the office after a week or so off. It's ironic in that the holiday is supposed to celebrate a beginning, but based on where it falls in our holiday season, it feels more like a conclusion.
