I haven't seen any news about this. Is it just a new version of the old boot? Seems most of those songs (or all?) have already been released on his other recent albums anyway. Or is it just a recycling of the old working title/boot title with new music?

Courtesy of elora: So, I'm guessing this is an early/mid 2000s recording? Might the whole album be, as if Unleash the Love never happened?

OK, so if I am interpreting elora's description properly, this has already been officially released within this year as a digital download that came with concert tickets? If that's correct, I'm surprised it hasn't come up more in the news. I don't follow every detail, to be sure, but I do try to keep up on news, and I'd have thought it would have been promoted (more?).
There is something funny about it, assuming that is indeed the deal, that we're getting a kind of archival solo release from Mike Love, of all people. As if there were a great demand from the show-going public who not only wanted to see the current M&B Beach Boys, but also to FINALLY have the opportunity to hear the mid-00s versions of these songs that were more or less released elsewhere later.
I'm not saying nobody on earth wants that, but the bulk of those people probably aren't the casual BBs show-goers.
So I still don't get it.

While the album had been advertised as being included with concert tickets, I don't think it was available for download at the time of purchase. It had been unclear until now (apparently) if anyone had successfully redeemed the album. But, yeah, you're right to point out that this is essentially a solo archival release bundled for free with concert tickets for The Beach Boys, with the main impetus being Mike's desire for it to be released. If thought of as an archival release, it makes more sense, but as an actual solo album? It makes no sense, as it completely undermines Unleash the Love. Thing is, it's not being presented as an archival release. That said, it's also not being promoted at all - beyond as a bonus for ticket purchasers who probably initiated the purchase without any knowledge of it. I think it's unclear, though, how many tickets the album is bundled with. And obviously unknowable how many people will actually redeem it. nater414 mentioned accidently deleting the email with the redemption code. I imagine the album will probably end up, officially, on streaming services, but we'll have to wait and see.

I imagine the album will probably end up officially on streaming services, but we'll have to wait and see. But even if that is true ... WHY? Most of those songs have already been officially released. Is Mike implying these were the real versions? It's not as if some major label interfered with some brilliant, original artistic vision and released them in bastard form. Nobody (from an industry perspective) gives a shit about this one way or the other. He could've released then just as he did later, in whatever form. Both are irrelevant.

Based on "World is My Family" and my vague memories of hearing the material previously, I actually wouldn't be shocked if I end up rating this as his best solo album. The production, and his voice, in particular, being the main factors. I'm saying this without listening, of course...

Obviously, it would be nice to hear from Mike about this, but all I can come up with is that Mike simply wanted these recordings released. Really, he should have released them at the time they were recorded and perhaps in hindsight he'd agree. I totally agree with you, though, that this is messy (and a bit surprising as no one was asking for it). But, like I said, thinking of it as an archival release - which presentation aside, is what it is - makes some sense. Not that that really matters at all. Obviously, there's not much interest either way. But I have no problem with Mike simply wanting to release this material and doing so, but of course - Mike being Mike -he had to bundle them with concert tickets for The Beach Boys (which is FAR from ideal). That it's released this way, though, is probably an acknowledgement of sorts that there was little interest in it.

I remember hearing something about this when I purchased my tickets last year for The Beach Boys performance at The Lied Center. Guess I should check my email. I rarely delete anything.

LOL, the excitement a new/archival Mike Love album brings! (Notification of how to get it sits ignored in an inbox, or even spam folder, for months on end.)

Yeah - I really wanted to listen to “Pisces Brother” again! I did look at my eMail and didn’t see anything. Not worth spending much time on.

I'm the one guy that actually enjoyed Unleash the Love, but no, I don't have much enthusiasm for this release. Even if it was to come out on CD eventually, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it (just like I only got the NASCAR disc because I found it in a thrift store for $3). I think it's safe to say that the recording days of Mike, Al, Bruce and Brian are behind them - except for maybe a song here or there.

It might be because I bought tickets at the actual box office (to avoid the ridiculous fees), but I wasn't asked to provide an email and there's nothing on the tickets about it.

I imagine that Mike, or somebody on Team Mike, decided it was no longer worth producing tangible product? I mean, I'm sure a lot of the Christmas and Summer CDs given away with concert tickets are sitting somewhere, still in plastic wrap, and maybe some of them didn't even make it home with the concert goers.
This one's pretty odd, even by BB standards.
