Sorry for falling so far behind. I'll catch up sometime this week. Haha, I know the feeling! Most memorable (of all Beatles songs and of most songs by anybody): "The Word": Least memorable: "Michelle", only because I heard it far too often at the time.

You know, I don't really love "Michelle" much. I think it's pretty, and it's a good song. But I don't think it's a great one, and I really don't like the French lyric bit. In fact, I don't like the lyrics much at all: they're pretty dopey. My favorite part of it is probably the guitar solo.

The girl I loved the most was named Michelle, so it's a special song to me. My last gf was named Ashley, and I've met dozens of girls with that name, but never heard a song with Ashley as the title.

Sounds like it's time for somebody to get to work on a new song!
Thanks for that info on the solo. All these years, I thought it was a guitar, maybe a fat jazz box with the highs rolled down.

Does anyone want to pick a favorite and least favorite song from Yesterday and Today? If not, we can move on to Revolver. And this one is easy: three songs from the UK version were left off the US version - I'm Only Sleeping, Dr. Robert, and And Your Bird Can Sing. They're on Yesterday and Today. I've never owned a butcher cover; I've seen them many times, along with some very real looking counterfeits. The only butcher cover I own is the Capitol CD released back in 2014. The steamer trunk cover was inserted as a sticker, which I was tempted to put on a guitar case, but I decided against it.

Does anyone want to pick a favorite and least favorite song from Yesterday and Today? I don't see any reason to skip it, as long as we're doing American albums. It's got a batch of songs from a great era that (I think?) aren't otherwise represented on US albums. So my vote would be yes, we should choose. Up to the threadmaster, though!
The songs (I see from the wiki page; as with other US albums, I wasn't familiar with it):
Yesterday and Today (June 15, 1966)
1. Drive My Car 2. I'm Only Sleeping
3. Nowhere Man 4. Dr. Robert 5. Yesterday 6. Act Naturally
7. And Your Bird Can Sing 8. If I Needed Someone 9. We Can Work It On 10. What Goes On 11. Day Tripper
It's an interesting group of songs, somewhat era-crossing (though they were all from within a couple of years). I've never listened to these songs as a group in that order, but I'm curious how it comes across. Even looking forward to it.

"Day Tripper" b/w "WCWIO" was a stand-alone 45 in the UK. Not the last, either.

"Day Tripper" b/w "WCWIO" was a stand-alone 45 in the UK. Not the last, either. That's what makes the whole "different versions for different countries" so maddening to me. Of course, the Beach Boys had some of it, too, but that it was the norm for the Beatles is confusing to me. I honestly don't understand the logic.

If we're doing Y&T, I'll go with
Best - And Your Bird Can Sing - There's a lot of classics on here, so I could've really gone with at least six options, but today, AYBCS is my favorite.
Worst - What Goes On - Not bad, just never a song I listen to until I'm listening to Rubber Sou......er, Yesterday and Today.

BEST SONG: It's between "And Your Bird Can Sing" and "Day Tripper". I'm a little sentimental with "And Your Bird Can Sing" because I used to hear/watch it on those Beatles' cartoons. But it rocks, (is that George on lead guitar?) and it's kind of a trippy song which I like, too. "Day Tripper" has that great riff and cutting lyrics from John. Damn, this is hard. I'll go with "Day Tripper" by a hair.
WORST SONG: "Act Naturally". I actually like most of Ringo's covers but this one is a lesser favorite, and it always sounded out of place to me.

So, it's essentially a dual lead. John plays rhythm guitar.

It sounds to me like a very early example of twin lead guitar that would be a huge part of the sound of bands like Wishbone Ash and Thin Lizzy, and eventually a signature sound of heavy metal.

Been thinking about Revolver for a couple days. Again, it's really hard to narrow it down to one song; Got to Get You Into My Life, Here There and Everywhere, Good Day Sunshine...this album might be Paul's high point. She Said, She Said is classic Lennon. Tomorrow Never Knows is the one everybody talks about, and it's good, but it's not my favorite. George has three songs - the most he would ever have on a Beatles album, but I don't rate any of them among his best. I'm tired of Taxman. Final pick for favorite is Here, There and Everywhere. Least favorite? Love To You. It's not bad, but George would improve upon it the following year.

So we've moved on to Revolver? And Revolver's track list is the same, minus I'm Only Sleeping, And Your Bird Can Sing, and Dr. Robert? Is that correct?
