Was so excited when the 1967 - 1970 double album came out and spent my allowance money on it back in 1973 - but now I prefer listening to the proper albums - as most of my current favorites were left off. I looked at my top 100 from earlier this year - but have changed my mind a bit from then, or my top pick would be “I Am The Walrus”.
Best: “Strawberry Fields” - Just love me some Psychedelic Pop. The Video of this song is one of my favorite song videos ever.
Worst: “Old Brown Shoe”- Never really liked that song. Gotta agree with kds. So many better options.
Unlike most Beatles fans - and as I have said before - “A Day In The Life” just flat out creeps me out. Just really don’t want to hear that song ever again. I guess it is creative and all - but I just sort of hate it. I tried - I really did. It’s like a bad acid trip.

I was so happy when The Blue Album came out. Most of the songs I didn't own and some I never even heard. It was like discovering The Beatles all over again! "Across The Universe", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "I Am The Walrus". Wow!
BEST SONG: I'll go with "A Day In the Life". It was great to final own the song and could play it whenever I wanted. A big honorable mention to "With A Little Help From My Friends" which was always a personal favorite. And, can't leave out "Across The Universe".
WORST SONG: "Old Brown Shoe". Does this song remind anyone of a Dylan-like song?

Wow, no love for "Old Brown Shoe"? I love it. That really fast bass lick - and as far as I can tell, that is George. The guitar, the organ, and that beat! I play drums, but that's one beat I would need an instructor to show me. Just an all around groovy track. But, as I did with the red album, I could argue for many songs that were left off. Dear Prudence, Birthday, Helter Skelter, Revolution 1, Rocky Raccoon, Blackbird, Because, You Never Give Me Your Money, Golden Slumbers, Two of Us, I've Got a Feeling, For You Blue, Getting Better - I'm thinking in terms of songs I've heard on classic rock radio. Sometimes it seems to me like nearly every song the Beatles recorded was a hit!

I play drums, but that's one beat I would need an instructor to show me. Just an all around groovy track. I gotta be honest, while I didn't list it among my few contenders for least favorite, it would have been next in line for that. I like it fine, but it's in such great company. It's just not on that same level for me. Sheriff John Stone, I definitely think it sounds like it could be a Dylan song--but that's anything but surprising for a George song in this era, written soon after he returned from America where he hung out with Dylan and the Band in New York. The song's wiki page quotes a few critics noticing the resemblance, too: "Author and critic Ian MacDonald identifies the "hood-eyed spirit" of Dylan in the song's "dusty shuffle-beat" and ironic lyrics, while recognising the "surprising and graphic" chord progression as typical of Harrison's work.[18] Author Alan Clayson also detects a Dylan influence in the rhythm, which he calls a "'Highway 61 Revisited' chug"." lonelysummer, it seems there is some controversy as to whether it was Paul or George on bass. (Maybe you knew it was disputed. I had no idea!) George says it was him, so I'd be inclined to believe him. But from what I can see, it's undisputed that he played bass on the demo, so it's conceivable that he was blurring the two in his memory. BeatlesBible.com has session details saying it's Paul, but the song's wiki page has the quotes from George to the contrary.

I never really understood why, considering bands, like The Beatles, had been doing music videos, or promo films as they were called, for a decade prior. And I agree that the clip for Strawberry Fields is one of the best example of those early promo clips.

George was just overflowing with great song ideas at this time, but I just don't think Old Brown Shoe is one of them. I don't think it's a bad song. But, maybe "bad" by Beatles standards. Is that a little unfair? Maybe.

Best: as it was with the Red comp, I'll just pick what I feel like it today and that's no definitive favorite. And that is With a Little Help From My Friends. What a beautiful song. It's easily my favorite Ringo song, and I say that a big fan of his vocal appearances throughout the Beatles discography.
Worst: The Long and Winding Road. I've explained it before when we discussed the Let It Be album. Across The Universe would've been so much better as the album closer...

Yep - I love this so much! 🎸❤️ That has to be the favorite Beatles music video among fans, right? Probably my favorite at least, I think. It's entire atmosphere suits the music so well.

Sheesh, the Beatles were doing promo vids for their songs at least a decade before the Beatles. You could consider the romps on the Monkees tv series to be early music videos. And if we want to go way back, there was Rick Nelson singing on the Ozzie and Harriet show.

I'm not sure I'd count songs performed as part of TV shows, but I think at the very least, nobody can argue that the standalone short films like "Strawberry Fields Forever" were videos. Just because people might not have known videos before Queen doesn't mean there were none!
The issue was there was nowhere to easily see those videos on a regular basis until the early '80s. What good does it do Joe Schmo in 1974 that the Beatles made a handful of videos? When and where and how can he see them? Some weekly half-hour show on a major network? (I don't know the answer to that, by the way. But I am assuming some shows here and there showed them before MTV launched.)
Anyway I love those Beatles videos.

The Beach Boys dabbled in making videos in 1966. I can't find it on YouTube but there was that strange video of "That's Not Me" where they're wearing those monster masks and peeking around trees and stuff. And then there's this one, which is pretty bad, too:

I was glad when The Beatles videos finally got a standalone release a few years ago with the Beatles 1+ collection. Prior to MTV, I think those promo videos used to air on shows like Bandstand, Don Kirschner, Midnight Special, etc.
