This discussion has me picturing the Beatles continuing together beyond 1970, touring, and recording new music. And recording "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" clones. I guess I'll make Paul the Mike of the group, with his "Silly Love Songs". John becomes the Brian of the group, hiding away at the Dakota, while the other three trot around the globe every summer. George becomes the Carl of the group - I was gonna say the Dennis of the group, but it just doesn't fit. I think Ringo becomes the Dennis of the group - at least in terms of substance abuse. Capitol puts out the "Rock 'N' Roll Music" double album in 1976, which results in a huge (or is it YUGE?) resurgence of interest in the early Beatles music. They get the anorexic Lennon out of hibernation, revive the old Lennon/McCartney songwriting team, and record an album titled "11 Big Ones". They get a top ten hit with a remake of the Little Richard classic "Lucille". They play stadiums and even have a tv special, "It's Alright". Then Lennon brings Yoko to the studio, and records "Peace on You", a strange album with Yoko screaming throughout, and very little participation from the other Beatles. The failure of that album prompts the others to jump on the disco bandwagon, and they release a 12 inch single of Paul's song "Goodnight Tonight".

Best - "Summer's Gone" - "From There To Back Again" and "Pacific Coast Highway" probably have my favorite moments, but "Summer's Gone" is my favorite track.
Worst - "Beaches In Mind" - There are probably only a few Beach Boys albums whose worst song is clearly better than this one.

'Summer's gone I'm gonna sit and watch the waves We laugh, we cry We live then die And dream about our yesterday"
Yes, we've reached the end of The Beach Boys studio albums - a total of 30 studio albums (including Smile). Here are the final results from the final album, which had seven voters.
Best
From There to Back Again - 3 Summer's Gone - 3 That's Why God Made the Radio - 1
Worst
Beaches in Mind - 4 Spring Vacation - 1 Bill and Sue - 1 Summer's Gone - 1
I'm actually a little surprised Pacific Ocean Blue didn't get a vote. I actually think the opening harmonies on that song, immediately following From There to Back Again, might be my favorite moment on the album.

I actually think the opening harmonies on that song, immediately following From There to Back Again, might be my favorite moment on the album. I agree that it might be the best single moment of the album, but I'm not so shocked it didn't get a vote as the best song. It definitely feels like a connector-segue piece to me. And the bookends on either side are two of the most beloved songs from the album, so I think they (in their entirety) top that moment.
And obviously that's "Pacific Coast Highway" (not POB). This is where a certain sort of person would chime in snarkily about that as if not to recognize that, obviously, you know the title and hadn't just made a simple mistake. I won't say what type of person...or what person specifically.

Well, that does explain why Pacific Ocean Blue didn't get a vote, LOL.

My vote for worst song on TWGMTR: Summer in Paradise!
For that matter, my vote for worst song on every Beach Boys album: Summer in Paradise!

Speaking of worst tracks on TWGMTR, despite what one might think of Spring Vacation, Beaches in Mind, or Bill and Sue, I'm very thankful they are on the album instead of Do It Again '12 and the proposed self cover of She Believes in Love Again.
For once, albeit for a very short lived time (basically the summer of 2012), The Beach Boys got it right.

Did anybody ever wonder or experiment with closing TWGMTR with "Pacific Coast Highway" AFTER "Summer's Gone"?

I've definitely thought that PCH's "goodbye" would be a great album ending, but obviously that's what Summer's Gone is, too. It's like two last songs in a row. I think to swap those two around, you'd need to edit Summer's Gone differently, taking away at least ~35 seconds of ocean sounds and have it go more naturally into the opening a cappella voices of PCH.

There's such a feeling of finality to Summer's Gone. And I think it's a fairly emotional song. I really think that, following it up with anything would be somewhat anticlimactic.

I have tried closing the album:
10. From There To Back Again 11. Summer's Gone 12. Pacific Coast Highway
...and, admittedly, I did run into the issues that Kapitan and kds mentioned. I do think "Pacific Coast Highway" would've worked - to some/a large extent - as the closing track. It has the feel, the lyrics, and, of course, the "Goodbye". I sometimes wish I would've heard it the way I listed the last three songs above originally. The regular ending sequence is obviously ingrained in my head now, and it's difficult to hear it any other way (though I've tried ).

Speaking of POB, are we going to rate the solo albums? I confess to only having listened to Carl's, Brian's, Dennis', and some of Mike's. No familiarity with the solo works of Bruce, David or Blondie (unless you are talking Parallel Lines and Autoamerican).

What about the live albums, at least the ones that saw official physical format release?

I would not be against doing the solo or live albums.
I like Lonelysummer's idea of sticking to the five classic members - Dennis, Carl, Mike, Brian, and Al for solo albums.
And, for live albums, I suppose that would be

Clark W. Griswold had to wait until Christmas Eve for his Christmas Bonus. But, that's not the case her at Beach Boys Today. A special Christmas Bonus Edition of the Best and Worst Track off each Beach Boys album.
Today, we'll look at the proposed Merry Christmas From The Beach Boys album. A couple of the tracks were released as stand alone singles. A couple were repurposed for the MIU album. A couple sat in the vault until the release of the 1998 compilation Ultimate Christmas. So, I'm presenting the eight tracks that have been officially released for that abandoned Christmas Album.
Somewhat annoyingly, the Ultimate Christmas comp is not on Spotify. However, the somewhat similar comp Christmas With The Beach Boys is available, which omits Christmas Time Is Here Again. Granted, I abandoned by search after about 90 seconds, but I couldn't even find that one on YouTube. So, if you don't have a physical copy of Ultimate Christmas, perhaps you have better searching skills than me.
I'll leave this up until Thursday December 8th at 11am EST.
