Speaking of silly fans.
We all know the 2020s have great a great time for conspiracy theories.
Seems like there are some tin foil hat wearers among NFL fans. The whole "NFL is rigged" and "NFL script" crap isn't really new, but its blown up in the last couple years.
The NFL even leaned into it with some funny commercials showing the NFL "Script Writers."
There's always been a bit of paranoia in Baltimore. Now, fas are worried the NFL wants the Chiefs to beat the Ravens on Sunday to ensure Taylor Swift's presence at the Super Bowl. Fools.

I definitely do not believe the NFL would fix a game to ensure any such thing ... but you can bet the league does prefer it! Advertisers, and thus the league and network, would be in heaven over all those extra eyeballs!

Oh yeah, no doubt they prefer it. Not only for the Swift tie in, but Patrick Mahomes is probably the best player in football. I'll bet the league and networks got a little nervous in mid December when there was a chance the Chiefs might not even make the playoffs.
The marque player thing throws another wretch into the tin foil hat crackpots (there's apparently a "rigged" hashtag). Would any script writer have Jared Goff one win away from a second SB appearance in five years?

Who is this Hamilton guy from the Ravens? He is a beast! Dang Lamar Jackson caught his own pass! What a great game! I guess I care a bit now. It would be nice for KC to go back to back to the Super Bowl. At least they have played ok so far. I like seeing a good game without outrageous penalties. May the best team win!

Well - congratulations Kansas City Chiefs! - in the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years! Fireworks everywhere! We set off four mortars! Love to see the Chiefs getting The Lamar Hunt Trophy! Means so much given the fact that Norma Hunt passed away this year.

Not surprisingly, in the wake of the Ravens loss on Sunday, the Lamar haters have resurfaced from the muck.
The rallying cry is "the Ravens will never win a SB with Lamar." Its not just Lamar fans, but sports fans in general love dealing in absolutes. They're convinced that past results will always predict the future. I don't buy that.
I remember when John Elway "couldn't win the big one" until he did. Then, Peyton Manning "couldn't win in the playoffs" until he did. Then, Andy Reid would "never win a Super Bowl" until he did.
I know the lesson is I just shouldn't pay attention to the statheads, fantasy nerds, and armchair coaches/GMs.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday everyone! I’m getting pretty excited now. Even though the Chiefs have been to the big game, four out of the last five years, this visit feels like the most fun. Maybe it’s because the regular season was so disappointing, or maybe it’s just because I really feel like the Chiefs know what to do to win the big game. I will avoid most of the pre-game shows because all day long Chiefs coverage is a bit exhausting. Enjoy!

Carlove, I promise this is not sour grapes. I'm pulling for the 49ers tonight. I'd like to see Kyle Shanahah avenge their tough loss to KC four years ago. Plus, it's been nearly 30 years since the 49ers won. And having another team with six total SB wins would get under the skin of Pittsburgh fans.

The Vikings released last season's #1 RB, Alexander Mattison.
Last season, the Vikings released the electrifying and productive, but injury-prone running back Dalvin Cook, thinking his previously dependable backup Mattison could hold down that spot for less money (and be more dependable in the process). Mattison continually rushed for just under 500 yards a season as a bit of a bowling ball to Cook's 1,100-1,500 yards a season as a sprinter.
Mattison did not look good as a featured back. He did rush for a career-high 700 yards, but it was on a career-high (by far) 180 carries, for just 3.9 ypc. He didn't score a rushing TD, he fumbled twice, and his season-long rush was just 21 yards.
They were ready to replace him with newly acquired Cam Akers, and when he got hurt, they turned to young Ty Chandler (who averaged 4.5 ypc and had 3 TDs in about 60% as many carries).
I'd loved Mattison as a backup, but I agree with the move. Mattison was bad last year as a starter, and Chandler is both better and cheaper.

Well, it looks like the idea of a managed transition from Kirk Cousins to some QB of the future to be named later is out the window, as Kirk Cousins will sign a 4-year deal with Atlanta. In some ways, I don't really mind it. Cousins performed statistically very well last year, but we weren't a good team with him. We would not be a very good team with him this coming season, either. So why break the bank on a short-term deal, ruin our cap situation, and still most likely be mediocre while not building for the future? This is a clean break, and I am fine with it. Whether we commit to a high draft pick this fall, or sign some journeyman to bridge the gap, it seems to make more sense to me than spending $75-80 million for him for two years. www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39708564/qb-kirk-cousins-leaving-vikings-4-year-deal-falcons
