I’d like to see some new-to-us footage of Carl singing a lead with the band. I want people to understand just how vital he was to the live band and its sound.

I am most fascinated with the 1974-1983 period. I just feel there was so much "going down" during that period - not just with Brian but ALL of The Beach Boys - that has not surfaced or been explained to my satisfaction. I don't think a documentary will ever go into it; it would have to come from somebody's book (Rocky Pamplin was onto something), but that's still what I would like to see explored.
Post-1983 to 2022 - and not to start anything controversial - all I see are people trying to control Brian, and Mike trying to keep The Beach Boys alive. I've read and seen enough of that, and the music ain't worth highlighting either.

I think I would prefer this in a separate live release. It's also the sort of thing that, assuming some eventual physical (or even not physical, but for-purchase) version could include clips of that sort of thing, with the full performance of a song as an extra.
While I've absolutely love more, previously unseen footage of the group (especially from the late 60s or early 70s!), I also wouldn't really want to use up 3 minutes or so on a complete song. Well, unless it's a 6-, 8, or what the heck, 10-hour documentary. (Which I want it to be, but assume it won't.) But seriously, I'll say for the 100th time, it really ought to be an Anthology kind of thing. They deserve much more than just two hours or something.

Yeah, if they're going to go all out and do an Anthology style thing, by all means, include full performances. And, who knows, maybe with the possibility of Disney+ carrying it, they'll give us a big three part doc, but I'm not really holding my breath.

Looking at Wikipedia, the EH doc was 141 minutes. I admittedly haven't watched more than a few clips from it, but it makes me wonder about the upcoming one. The band has clearly been trying to promote the early 70s more and close to 25 years have passed since EH was released. With that said, what could realistically be cut to keep it at a similar length? Hopefully the new doc is just longer. I think an extra 40 minutes putting it at three hours would be relatively satisfactory without making people have to be really invested to watch the whole thing. You could realistically spend an extra 15 minutes on the early-mid 70s, another 15 on the late 70s to Carl's passing, and another 10 on the years since.

On the first part, it's very good! Arguably the best BBs doc. I recommend you check it out (even though it's a bit outdated now).
On the second, the obvious thing to cut in my opinion is the early years. That origin story has been told and retold 10,000 times. I mean, obviously if it's meant to be a complete doc, it has to be there. But it could be cut somewhat.

I think the runtime is actually a little under two hours. My DVD of EH also shows 141 minutes, but I think that's with the bonus clips (I think there are seven bonus clips).
