Here is a new story from David Leaf's alma mater--it's in the George Washington Hatchet--about the reissued book. The article notes that Leaf actually wrote a review for Surf's Up in 1971 in the Hatchet. It also includes an interview with Leaf.

Another new story on the new edition of Leaf's book, also including a brief interview.
From the above article/interview:
At the core of the Beach Boys' sound was the blood connection between Brian and younger brothers — the both sadly departed Dennis and Carl Wilson: “There was a connection — an inexplicable connection between the brothers, that unless you have brothers, you're never going to understand. And Brian, Dennis, and Carl had that. So, when you watch the clip of them doing 'I'm Bugged At My Old Man,' you see something that is. . . that is, really — it's, like, a private revelation of that connection. That's the DNA of the Beach Boys. The family harmony blend that Brian taught them. That's the DNA of the Beach Boys that matters to me.”
I thought I'd post that video. I find it fascinating:

www.leafprod.com/The David Leaf VIP Experience is open on his webpage. I already have a copy of his book, but he and I chat a bit on Facebook messenger, so I am purchasing another copy with a special message from David and he even includes a piece of memorabilia with the Silver Experience. He is a good man, and part of the money is going into the scholarship fund for the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA. Darian Sahanaja was a recipient of a scholarship to the school many years ago and I have to say - that was money well spent!

Today David Leaf is doing an event at UCLA: an "in-depth chat" with famed journalist Roy Firestone, with both Darian Sahanaja and Probyn Gregory on hand. Proceeds benefit the UCLA music school.
Hopefully this will end up posted online, as it sounds great. I'm curious what Darian and Probyn will be doing: Q&A? Performances to demonstrate certain things?

I got to browse the book today at a book store. I have the 1985 edition; the new section seems mostly to tell us how evil Landy was and how wonderful Brian's life is with Melinda in it. Not to say that there aren't some good observations in it, but it's not something I need to add to my collection.
