How about this? (Not rumored, just me playing around.)
Malik Beasley, Ricky Rubio, and some future draft considerations for Ben Simmons.
20-21 stats:
Beasley (24 yo): 19.6 ppg on .440 FG, .399 3pt, .850 FT; 4.4 rpg, 2.4 apg 3 years left on contract (third year team option), around $15m per year.
Rubio (30 yo): 8.6 ppg on .388 FG, .308 3pt, .867 FT; 3.3 rpg, 6.4 apg in 26.1 mpg Entering final year of contract, around $17.8m.
Here is my argument: Beasley provides some more much-needed shooting, can play either wing spot and a little point in a pinch, is young, has serious scoring talent, and can really help defend. He's an active player with a pretty good all-around game. Rubio has his well known limitations, but he's a more willing and much better shooter than Simmons. He's also as good or better a passer than Simmons, and a really strong defender...and a GREAT leader. And he offers a transitional year, a stable, proven guy while Philly figures it out.
And Philly saves a ton of money on this thanks to Rubio's expiring deal, leaving just Beasley (with less than half of Simmons's salary) on the books.
Before I posted above and before reading your post right above^, I confess that I checked out Malik Beasley's stats. Yes, I would gladly take him and Rubio's expiring deal.

The NBA draft combine has wrapped up and ESPN's draft guys (formerly of DraftExpress, Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz) included two Minnesotans, PG McKinley Wright IV of Colorado and PF/C Jericho Sims of Texas, in their list of standouts. They both worked their way into ESPN's latest mock draft, where they are just below another Minnesotan, Duke PF Matthew Hurt, as late 2nd rounders.
And of course we're going to have Jalen Suggs (Gonzaga combo guard) go among the top few picks.
Another good year for locals! (Last year we had Tyrell Terry taken by Dallas, Tre Jones taken by San Antonio, Zeke Nnaji taken by Denver, and Daniel Oturu taken by LAC; then Freddie Gillespie was later signed by Toronto.)

Actually kind of old news, as our local writers were talking about informal talks last week already, but it's trending nationally that Philly has begun having talks involving Ben Simmons trades. Minnesota, New York, Sacramento, Toronto, and Cleveland said to be interested.

Give me one of those young, 20 pts. per game scorers who can play a little defense and will WORK HARD!

I saw a Philly beat writer (I forget the name, sorry) speculate the best of what he thought was likely was a 3-way deal where the basics were--he didn't get into details to even out salaries, etc.--Simmons to MN; Damian Lillard to PHI; and a package focused on young talent including Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Maxey to Portland. (We'd need about $18m more to from Minnesota to Portland to equal it out. Basically, Ricky Rubio or some combo adding up to that.)
Personally, I would not give up Ant for Ben Simmons. And I love Ben Simmons. But Edwards has been a remarkable player in a short time. His ceiling is very high.

Simmons just bought a mansion in L.A. He seems like an L.A. guy. I don't think LeBron would want him, though, because he can't shoot and the Lakers need shooters. Other than that, Simmons would fit the Lakers fine.
And, I would not part with Tyrese Maxey. I like him a lot.

Many outlets reporting that Damian Lillard either has formally requested, or soon will formally request, to be traded from Portland. I've seen his preferred destinations listed as GSW, LAL, MIA, and NYK. I would imagine PHI will thoroughly investigate their options and his interest, as well.
Lillard is 31 and is signed through '24-'25, with values due him ranging from $43.7m this coming season to $54.3m in the final season of the deal.

Not quite the NBA, but about a team of NBA stars: Team USA loses to France, losing their first Olympic game since 2004.
France is hardly chopped liver, with eight current or former NBA players and at least two more borderline NBA talents. Evan Fournier led all scorers with 28 points, while ex-NBA guard Nando de Colo was a team best +14 and contributed 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Team USA shot just 36 FG% and 31 3pt%, and were out-rebounded 42-36.

We've got our first biggish offseason/pre-draft trade!
The Pelicans are sending Eric Bledsoe, Steven Adams, and two 1st rounders (including the #10 this year) to Memphis for Jonas Valanciunas and the #17 pick this year. They are also swapping 2nd rounders.
I don't know what I think of it. The players are all good, but flawed and expensive. They're all signed for two more seasons. Adams is the pure "garbage man" type that might complement young star PF Jaren Jackson Jr and his outside game, but he is also duplicative of (if bigger than and probably better than) younger Brandon Clarke. Bledsoe has been hurt so much, and has a habit of disappearing... Meanwhile, Valanciunas had his best season at age 28 last season, with 17.1 ppg and 12.5 rpg, and has slowly begun adding face-up jumpers including 3s to his game. He isn't much of a rim protector, and in fact he's probably not quite so tough as Adams was. But he's a far better scorer.

The pandemic has really thrown me off things, as it has wreaked havoc on typical schedules. But tomorrow is the NBA draft! A month later than usual, but better than last year's late autumn draft! That really messed with my mind...
Any thoughts from anyone on your teams' likely outcomes, options, outlook?
The Wolves have no picks, with our 1st rounder going to Golden State in the D'Angelo Russell/Andrew Wiggins trade. (That said, we may well bring in Leandro Bolmaro, the 20-year-old Argentinian point forward we took last year but who stayed in Europe. So we may have a new "first rounder" this year anyway.) Though there is always the possibility for trades.
For me, maybe the most fun will be seeing how high Jalen Suggs is taken, and whether any other locals (Matthew Hurt of Rochester, MN, and Duke; McKinley Wright of Minneapolis and Colorado; and Jericho Sims of Minneapolis and Texas) are taken in the 2nd round.

Relevant to SJS at least, though possibly for my Wolves as well...
Woj (though not exactly a "Woj bomb"): "ESPN Sources: Sixers continue to canvass the league for Ben Simmons trades — armed with a steep asking price. Simmons and his agent, Klutch CEO Rich Paul, are in step with a move elsewhere. Draft night is always an ideal vehicle for a deal, but talks could continue into summer."

Yeah, I read that. I also read/heard/saw that Ben hasn't exactly been spending a lot of time in the gym working on his game...

To be young, fit, and rich...
From what I understand, while the team is on board with Simmons's people (so funny thinking/talking that way) to move him, something may well happen. But Morey is also asking an arm and a leg. You're just not going to get a Harden-level haul for a guy who can't or won't shoot!
And I love Ben Simmons. It's just that he's a brilliant role player, a star-level role player. But a role player. Non-shooters cannot be full, true "stars," at least unless they are post scorers. If Ben Simmons decides to start acting like Shawn Kemp-meets-Simmons, sure. The passing, the rebounding, the defense, love it. But if he can't shoot, he at least has to attack and dunk everything in sight. And a few years in, one wonders.

BIG PHILLY TRADE!
But not Ben Simmons. The 76ers sent $2m to New Orleans for the #53 pick.
