Gosh, i forget these two tracks were a+b sides.
Made in usa version of wouldnt it be nice is so good. I like how it was the default version for a few yeats. I remember it from seinfeld and i think , the naked gun, as well. I still hear it on the radio too. It's a great mix. Not only are brian's vocals more present , the entire mix sounds better . Maybe its a generationx better than other mixes

Did you know that "God Only Knows" was Paul McCartney's favorite song? LOL, what? I've never heard such a thing!
Reminder: today is the final day to weigh in on this single (or at least to vote). So be sure to rate it, and if you have more to say, by all means do so. (I meant to, and still mean to, talk a little about the music of GOK.)

Regarding the lyrics, I've always kind of heard them like kds and lonelysummer . The narrator has fallen in and out of love before (a la "Here Today"), so he knows and fears it could happen again, but the romantic in him believes that she's the love of his life - that no one in the world could be better for him. In my interpretation, he's telling us, not her, that he may not love her forever, but the "it" that he's referring to in the first verse is his love for her. Looking closely at the lyrics, I wonder if he'd stay with her, and (attempt to) continue to make her "so sure about it", even after potentially losing interest, but again, I think the romantic in him (that KDS and lonelysummer allude to) hopes it won't come to that. That said, he's obviously pretty doom and gloom about his life if this relationship fails. I do like, though, how in this uber-romantic sounding song, on one hand, he's being literal about the fact that, "well, yes, life would go on". But, again, on the other hand, his over-the-top life-would-be-entirely-pointless-without-you IS romantic - like, what happened to life would go on?

My interpretation of the two vague lines:
I may not always love you = this relationship might not last; I might not get the chance to always love you; I might not always be able to "actively" love you, to SHOW you.
If you should ever leave me, though life would still go on, believe me = If she leaves him the sun will still come up tomorrow; life still goes on; it won't be the same but he'll survive. The "believe me" does confuses things, it throws some cynicism into what he's saying, like "believe me, I'll go on regardless..."; that's not something you say to someone you love unless he's trying to really make a point.

Those lyrics remind me of my mother now. My dad passed away in February, age 82; mom was in poor health before, dad did everything for her; they spent nearly every waking hour together. What good does living do her now? The center of her life has been taken from her.
