Okay, here's my list... I think. 5. Funky Pretty I'm surprised you have "Funky Pretty" so high, but I do occasionally see it on others' Beach Boys "favorites" lists, and it did make the cut on The Beach Boys In Concert. It must be me.

Okay, here's my list... I think. 24. Lonely Sea This is an underrated classic, isn't it? I think "Lonely Sea" shows the power of Greatest Hits and Best Of compilations, which "Lonely Sea" never seems to appear on. I love the song, though!

Okay, here's my list... I think. 10. Celebrate the News Interesting. A favorite that didn't appear on the album, but was a B-side. "Celebrate The News" DID benefit from ending up on compilations, because otherwise, nobody would've ever heard it!

It wouldn't make my top 50. Maybe not top 75. I don't know, that would take some effort to figure out. But I'm definitely among those who thinks it's overrated. (That said, I get its appeal to some extent. I think it sounds awful on the album, though, which doesn't help. It sounds kind of blah, muddy, dull, even when there are interesting little parts going on.)

jk mentioned "Beach Boys Burnout" in his above post, and while I don't experience significant burnout with the music, it does, to some degree affect my favorite songs list. My favorite songs are more the flavor of the month (or day), though some have been on the list for awhile and are truly all-timers that will never change. So, on 11/18/20, my Favorite Beach Boys' Songs are:
1. Caroline, No 2. In My Room 3. Sloop John B (thanks Joshilyn)
4. It's OK 5. Amusement Parks U.S.A. 6. This Whole World 7. The Night Was So Young 8. Pacific Coast Highway 9. The Water Chant 10. Can't Wait Too Long
11. God Only Knows (Farm Aid Live version) 12. This Whole World 13. Our Prayer 14. Cuddle Up 15. Matchpoint Of Our Love 16. Roller Skating Child 17. Til I Die 18. Cherry, Cherry Coupe 19. Why Do Fools Fall In Love (Live: The 50th Anniversary Tour) 20. Good Timin'

5. Amusement Parks U.S.A. 9. The Water Chant 14. Cuddle Up 15. Matchpoint Of Our Love 18. Cherry, Cherry Coupe 19. Why Do Fools Fall In Love (Live: The 50th Anniversary Tour) I'd rate these as the most out-of-the-mainstream choices from your list. Especially Water and Matchpoint. I get the merits especially of the latter, but rating it among the very best is not something I'd do. (And aren't I everyone's reference point!? )

1. Wouldn't It Be Nice 2. Surfer Girl 3. I Get Around 4. Please Let Me Wonder 5. Heroes And Villains 6. Don't Worry Baby 7. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times 8. Forever 9. Wild Honey 10. She Knows Me Too Well
11. God Only Knows 12. We'll Run Away 13. Little Deuce Coupe 14. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) 15. Kiss Me Baby 16. California Girls 17. Til I Die 18. In My Room 19. Help Me Rhonda 20. Our Prayer
It goes without saying that I was trying to squeeze another 20-67 songs into my top 20. I had especially hoped to include more deep tracks, but the reality is that I love those songs nearly as much, not more, than the hits. Though, that said, my list is still somewhat varied.

(And aren't I everyone's reference point!? ) Amusement Parks U.S.A. - The song rocks and you can hardly hear a guitar! Maybe the most intense two minutes of any BB song.
The Water Chant - How in the hell did he come up with something like this, and he pulled it off perfectly - it IS water. And so psychedelic.
Cuddle Up - So romantic. I can't believe it hasn't been covered more. At or near the top of my list of underrated BB songs for years.
Matchpoint Of Our Love - It meant so much to hear Brian singing like that in 1978 and I still carry that feeling today.
Cherry, Cherry Coupe. Another underrated one. So simple and so catchy and so cool. I love the SOUND of this one.
Why Do Fools Fall In Love - This version, more than any other song on that disgraceful album, reminds me of the great experience of the C50 concert.

I had especially hoped to include more deep tracks, but the reality is that I love those songs nearly as much, not more, than the hits. That is something I'm glad to hear someone else say. I can say for myself--especially in my earlier fandom, say late '90s through mid '00s--I used to find these deep connections with songs that I'd certainly never heard before and I felt most nobody else had appreciated or heard, either. So it was always those songs I wanted to list, those songs I wanted to champion. I loved and love those songs!
Yet as time rolls on and things settle to some kind of equilibrium, I can't help but admit that I'm not so different than the more typical, historical fan: I love "Fun Fun Fun," "Little Deuce Coupe," "In My Room," and all these other songs that everyone has always known were great. They are great! They belong on lists!
EDIT: I should also add, there was a certain kind of fun in using the deep cuts on my lists in those earlier years. "Look how knowledgeable / hipster I am! I'm choosing the left channel only of the fifth take of the stereo tracking session of such-and-such as my definitive rendition." But that matters less as one gets older.

Which recording is this, exactly?

I was very close to including these! "You're So Good To Me" is probably my favorite BBs song at the moment, but prior to the past few months it wouldn't have come close to my top 20 so I left it off.

Which recording is this, exactly? The Water Chant is actually part of Cool, Cool Water, but for the purposes of this favorites list, I separated the the two.

Yeah, I probably should've included this one. I never get tired it. It is just a great, great record. Whenever it pops up on an oldies radio station, it STILL sounds fresh.

This song's greatness has always escaped me. I think the track drags slightly and it has to be Carl's worst vocal ever. I wish Brian would've tackled it with his "Here Comes The Night" voice. The later live rockin' version featuring Blondie's vocal is superior IMO.
