I think that's true. Following up on my rant about the Comcast cable-tv channel, Music Choice - Sounds Of The Season, I did send them another message, or specifically, another complaint. To their credit, the website is now more user-friendly, and they actually responded promptly to my message. I basically told them that following Bing Crosby with Justin Beiber and Karen Carpenter with Jessica Simpson and Johnny Mathis with Britney Spears was taking away my Christmas spirit. They thanked me and said they would refer it to the proper department or something... Unfortunately, the "proper department" is probably the trash can icon on the computer. Luckily, unlike most of my CDs, my Christmas CDs are pretty easily accessible, so I can play those while we decorate the tree, wrap presents, etc. Yeah, I didn't expect my opinion to even cause a ripple. Like you, I have alternate ways - many ways - to get my Christmas music fix. But, jeez, that "older Christmas music" Music Choice channel was so great. I can't tell you how many gems I discovered on there. Now, those mp3s are just stored away somewhere, probably for good.
Getting back to broadcasting Christmas music for the younger generation, I'm really surprised because I didn't realize they (the younger generation) were THAT into it, despite some "younger" Christmas albums springing up.

When I peruse the new releases weekly, I'm always surprised how many Christmas albums come out each year from younger, popular artists. Gwen Stefani had one this year, Meghan Trainor has one coming, Kacey Musgraves had one last year...

Same here, I'd discovered a few good ones on that channel in the past as well. I think the love of Christmas / Christmas music is something that will always be multigenerational.

I was at my local grocery store yesterday. This is the Weis Supermarket where I've heard Uriah Heep and deeper cuts from Grand Funk, The Doors, The Who, and Springsteen over the speakers.
But, yesterday, they were playing a mix of very contemporary Christmas songs. I have to say, it's a great way to encourage people to use the curbside pickup option.

There is a BB-related Christmas song that has slowly but surely become a Christmas music standard..."Hey Santa!" by Carnie & Wendy Wilson. I hear it consistently played on all of the radio stations featuring Christmas music. It's always nice to hear Carl Wilson's voice on the tag..."It's Christmas time..."

I have to say that despite the Wilson connection, I detest that song. I will admit that it sounds like Little Fuckin' Saint Nick compared to some the dreck I've heard from Kelly Clarkson, Sia, and Ariana Grande.

For several years "Hey Santa!" wasn't even a favorite song of mine from the Carnie & Wendy Hey Santa! album, but it has grown on me. It's hard to believe that song/album is 27 years old! I think sentimentality is getting to me.

This will show my utter ignorance of Christmas music: I'm pretty sure I've never heard "Hey Santa" before this morning, when I listened because you guys were talking about it.

Hey Santa! is a pretty good Christmas album. The tracklist is acceptable, the production is good, and Wendy and especially Carnie are in fine vocal form. This is one of the better songs on the album:

Sheriff may not share my opinion, but I think Hey Santa is an ultra saccharine Christmas song that would fit one of those Hallmark Channel Christmas movies. I like my share of sweet, sentimental Christmas songs, but Hey Santa has always rubbed me the wrong way. It's up there with Faith Hill's Where Are You Christmas.

I was just looking at the tracklist. Maybe I'll give the album a listen. However, there are several versions of each of those songs that are on my rotations.

Like I said above, "Hey Santa!" hasn't been one of my favorites from the album. The intro with the children's choir is pretty bad, and the melody certainly isn't of their father's vintage melodies. But, the song does get going, and also like I posted, it's always nice to hear Carl's voice, albeit a little buried in the mix. I really believe that just hearing the song played on the radio alongside the others makes me like it more. I'm a sentimental sap, and hearing Christmas music - yes, many of the same songs over and over - played on the radio, in the stores, and in my home when the weather's getting colder and the lights are being strung and, well, you know what I mean. It makes me like the song(s) more!

Having listened once--well, almost once--I'm going continue my general policy of not listening to Christmas music.
