I just heard this on Minnesota Public Radio from a host, introducing an NPR story with all seriousness of tone: "We've been through a lot in the past two years, and now there's a Christmas tree shortage."
I'm sorry, but deadly pandemic; race riots causing dozens of dead and billions in damage; political unrest resulting in rejection of a presidential election and the storming of the Capitol; ongoing political and social unrest over public education and race; and a shortage of Christmas trees.
I know, people like Christmas. But I'm sorry, one of these is not like the others!

Does this mean we're going to see people panic buying Christmas trees? Am I going to go to Target and see some idiot with ten artificial trees in his / her cart?

We go into the weekend with a surprisingly nice little forecast: 50s today and 60s both days this weekend. That was the daily norm a couple of weeks ago, but we've been down in the low 50s and high 40s most days lately. I'm hoping the wind today will empty my front yard trees of their leaves so it will make sense to rake them up this weekend. (I don't want to waste my time doing what's on the ground now when both trees are 80% full yet.)
Because by midweek we'll be back into the 40s and apparently getting more (much needed) rain. As much as I do want that rain--we need it to replenish the dry soil!--I don't want to end up raking water-logged leaves in near-freezing weather.

I've been enjoying this mixture of fall/winter weather the last few days. On Wednesday night after work, I cut the grass and it looked nice and full and green. Then, when I woke up Thursday morning, it was covered in frost. It glistened in the early morning sun. And, frost on the pumpkin. Literally! I enjoyed the look.
Now, this morning for my 6:00 AM walk, it was around 29 degrees. However, after getting the sweatshirt and a pair of gloves out of the closet, it was a nice, brisk walk - and I still got my sweating in!
Add a little Christmas music in the mix, some coffee, breaking out the winter coat, yeah, it's OK...

It was warmer here, actually in the high 30s, but still chilly to start off. I love morning walks that begin before sunrise, which was the case today even though I didn't get out until about 7. But it was so pleasant, I ended up going for about 2.5 miles. It was not just light out before I got home 40 minutes later, but I had also worked up a bit of a sweat. (I move quickly out there, especially when it's chilly.)

We've had some nights and mornings in the 30s, with days in the mid 50s, and that's on tap for the weekend. Perfect football weather for Sunday afternoon's Ravens / Viking game, which will be my last game until just before Christmas.
I can handle this. If we can just wait until mid to late December for those daytime highs in the 30s and 40s....that would be greeeat.

25 degrees this morning. Autumn colors have gone, birds flew south with their song...cuddle up in a cozy nook, with a warm drink and a book.

Opposite here: our morning low was in the mid-40s, which is an average high this time of year, and we're going to see the 60s the next couple days. I'll get a little raking done before the 11 a.m. Gophers game (hosting Illinois).

Cold mornings and nights here, but the leaves haven't really peaked yet. And the highs are supposed to get back in the high 60s for the work week.

Lately I've been thinking about getting an electric 12-string guitar. But I'm struggling with the thought, in some ways. I don't really play guitar all that much: it's mostly just when I'm writing or when I'm recording songs. I don't practice anymore. I don't just play for fun more than maybe every couple of months for a little while. And of course not every song I'd write or record needs an electric 12-string.
So ... it seems like a lot to spend on a fun little niche tool. But they also sound so damn cool!

How about a Carl Wilson 12 string Rickenbaker:

Daylight saving time ended very early this morning. So, the sun is going down at 4:57pm today.
There's a growing movement to do away with this concept. Personally, I think it's a pretty minor thing, but I've also never known life without it.
If we do get rid of it one day, I hope we stay in daylight saving time as I don't want to lose those late summer sunsets.

Sheriff John Stone - I can't imagine myself ever shelling out extra $ for a signature model, so I wouldn't bet on that! (Plus, they're really expensive for something I'd play so rarely! $3500 seems to be the going rate based on some very quick googling.) While I would need to research a bit, I think something more like the Gretsch models that go in the $900-1000 range would be more likely. Maybe even the Danelectros that are even cheaper, but I'd need to play one.
kds - Just Friday, some of my colleagues were talking about a move to apparently not just do away with daylight savings, but to stick with it, just as you're hoping. No idea as to the seriousness or progress of such an initiative. Especially since the whole country already doesn't observe daylight savings, anyway. I believe there are places in both the mountain west region and maybe the Rust belt--Indiana?--that don't switch the clock.

It does seem a bit off that not all 50 states abide by it. Personally, I think a lot of the detractors are overreacting against the concept, but there also doesn't seem to be a logical reason that I'm aware of to keep doing it every year.

Yeah, honestly the whole thing seems odd to me. Almost silly, even, in that we have the same amount of light and darkness regardless of what we call it. If we say it's 6 or 9 when the sun goes down, or 5 or 8, it's the same. It's just not important to me at all. I'd rather have it left alone--either way, I don't care--than switch it twice a year.
