I still have the AC on, even though it doesn't kick on as often. Despite a few nights and mornings in the 50s, it's been too warm during the days to significantly cool down the house. In temp inside has only dipped as low at 71 so far.
Back in my single and pre child days, October was a month that I always refused to run the AC or heat, regardless of the temperature.

Two weeks shy of a year ago, we got almost 8" of snow. (Oct. 20, 2020, I think it was.)
Granted, two weeks is an eternity in Minnesota weather, but things could not be better here in that respect. We're settled into that pattern of cool (50s) overnight and 70s by the afternoons. It's truly beautiful, and it seems it's likely to last a couple of weeks. Couldn't be luckier.

We're in a little bit of an Indian summer pattern here. It got into the 80s Sunday and yesterday. It's cooler today, but still pretty humid. Temps are supposed to cool, but I still see a lot of rain in the forecast this week.

The Halloween thread (somehow, as opposed to the displays in every grocery store and Target over the past month) has got me thinking about getting Halloween candy. But ...
Last year there were zero trick-or-treaters. OK, pandemic.
The year before, I want to say also zero. Over the past decade it has been amazing seeing the number of trick-or-treaters shrink, as more and more families seem to go to school-, city-, or other organization-sponsored and hosted events. The past several times I've really stocked up, I've ended up having almost literally all of the candy left over. I bet I haven't had 10 kids in the past five years combined.
So ... do I go buy a bunch of candy anyway, knowing I'll probably be eating that candy myself? Obviously I'd hate to be caught without any in the event kids did show up.

We moved into a house in 2017 that's a dead end street. We've never seen one trick or treater. That's quite a change from when we lived in a rowhouse neighborhood where we'd give away 500 pieces of candy.
I still buy a bag every year just in case. But, we don't even trick or treat on our own street. We'll go to my parents' neighborhood. Not a ton of houses participate, but when you have a toddler, you don't really need a long night out.

The story of the summer is repeating itself lately here: we keep getting these forecasts of rain just around the corner. Turn the corner, no rain ... but now it's just around that corner! Turn the corner, no rain.
Since Saturday, it has been just a few hours away. It's Wednesday now. But don't worry, it's supposedly just a few hours away!
(We really do need that rain.)

We're getting our rain right now. This, after a few days of very gray skies where it looked like it might rain at any second.
And, tomorrow and Friday will see another trip into the 80s, but a little more fall like for the weekend.

The downside of remote work ... I went for a little lunchtime walk, and when unlocking my work session, I could only get error messages. Disconnected from the network, unable to even begin the login process: the error message comes immediately upon trying to open the VMWare app through which I'd connect.
So, well, here I sit. Logged out and locked out. Talked to help desk, he said there is some issue with the network, and to try again every 10 minutes or so. Guess I've got some free time...

Daytime highs in the low 50s here, with strong, gusting wind. Suddenly there are a lot of leaves on the ground and it's hard to argue against the truth: it's autumn.

We're still in Endless Summer, with Fall making a cameo now and again. Highs around 81 today.
But, some rain tomorrow is supposed to cool things down, and Sunday's high is 63. Looking at the long range forecast, Fall may have finally arrived.
Personally, I blame the "basics" for trying to rush the coming of Fall back in early August. Summer wasn't pleased.

It was 42 degrees when I woke up (and still is around there, actually). Tonight we may get into the 30s! Not unusual for this time of year--actually I haven't even pulled up my garden yet, and still have been picking peppers and tomatoes!--but it's still a shock to the system after our warm start to October.
We've still got 50s and 60s in the 10-day forecast, which is normal. I won't mind if it stays that way as long as possible, because in Minnesota, we know what comes next... It's one thing to put on jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, or a sweatshirt to rake leaves; it's quite another to bundle up to brace oneself against -40 temps and two feet of snow.

I'm thankful our winters aren't that bad here. But, as I said before, the perfect Fall weather that many pine for is very fleeting here.

To be fair, that's the worst of it I referenced, not the norm. But I'd say we have at least one storm per winter that's a foot or more, and in bad years we'll get a few (sometimes close together). Then also, while normal winter temps may be in the range of freezing on the high end to around 0 F on the low end, we'll get those stretches of a few days or a week where it never tops 0 and indeed drops well below, sometimes to -30, -40, or worse. But my scenario above is not normal. Just nightmarish.

Right, but your winters are still far more harsh than what we get.
