Minneapolis is expecting anywhere from 6-12" of snow by noon tomorrow. (We're about 2" in, so far.) And then we're to be graced by 40 mph gusts of wind, which should be delightful. So, as one might expect, we've stocked up on everything and are going to be holed up inside, shoveling notwithstanding.
The good news is, I've got a pork roasting that will be half used in a white chili (pork, hominy, and white beans with chicken stock, onions, peppers, etc.) and the other half for carnitas. And there is more than enough to drink!
Anybody else getting this blizzard, which I understand is spanning large swaths of the country?
Here in Central Pennsylvania we're supposed to get snow on Saturday morning starting around 10:00 AM. Most of the forecasts are calling for only 1-3 inches, but I heard one forecast saying 5-8 inches. It's supposed to change to rain later at night and the roads might get a little slick. But I don't think we'll have it too bad, certainly not conditions like you are experiencing. Unfortunately, I won't be having a menu like yours either. Do you deliver across states?

Correction: I did my first round of shoveling and I'd say we've got a solid 3" already. If it truly keeps up through tomorrow, I fear we'll be on the higher end!
As for delivery, hey, if the price is right! (I'm also planning to do a scratch-made pizza tomorrow. Maybe cookies. What the hell, it's nature's fault.)

We're going to be getting it here in the Greater Toronto Area, starting tonight and all day tomorrow. They're calling for 10-15 cm here, which isn't really all that bad when compared to what's happening in Newfoundland right now. My in-laws are in St. John's where a state of emergency has been declared. They are getting absolutely battered with a 50-75 cm blast as we speak. Lots of snowed-in doors and apparently there are currently widespread power outages. We haven't heard back from my in-laws about the current state of things at their house yet, but hopefully we'll hear from them soon.

I always appreciate reminders that Minnesota isn't the worst it can get, weather-wise!
But seriously, I hope your in-laws are doing OK with what sounds like an awful storm.

Thanks. They've had a hell of a winter so far, so I feel pretty bad for them. We've had it fairly easy here up to now. Knock on wood...

Well, I think the snow is just about over where I live in Pennsylvania. It's starting to turn to rain. We got the predicted 3 inches, but I haven't even gone out to shovel. I think I'll wait and see if the rain washes it away.

Our outcome was better than expected: while the snowfall did continue overnight Friday into Saturday, I don't think we ended up with more than 6", which means the second 12 hours of snow brought the same result as the first four or five. No complaints on my end! The wind has been nasty since then, but that's fine. It's warm inside, after all.

It being February in Minnesota, the past week or two it seems EVERYONE has been sick with colds and flu. As usual, it is most common among those with kids, those little germ factories, and I was feeling mighty smug about my relative health.
This morning, though, around 4, I woke up coughing. And coughing. And sniffling. And aching. And coughing some more. I'm fortunate that I can work from home, which I'm doing, and so I won't be making anyone else sick or increasing my misery with pretensions of normalcy (you know: being decently dressed, relatively formal, presentable). It's sweats, blankets, cough drops, water and tea, and a LOT of complaining from me today.

The inconsistent temps in the Baltimore area are making for a nasty / cold flu season. I got a cold that took me two weeks to shake after attending a Ravens playoff game where the high was around 71, followed by a run of 20-30 degree days. I used to be able to take a Cold Eze at the first sign, and knock it out, but that's not been the case lately.

Half my office has been sick the last couple of weeks, and the sickies just keep on coming in to work! I'm relieved to have avoided catching it so far. On one hand it’s nice working with dedicated people, but on the other, I just want to tell them all to stay away from me with their coughing and sniffling.
Hope you feel better soon, Kapitan. Working from home is nice, though. It so happens I’m working from home today too, but because it’s a snow day.

Sick people coming to work are the WORST. We've had plenty of them. Drives me nuts, especially in this era when working from home is possible (and in our company is generally acceptable as long as it isn't too often for your role). Yes, congrats on being such a good soldier and making everyone else sick, too...

Seriously, the world won't come crumbling down if a meeting is missed, or whatever. Funnily enough, I'm the person everyone comes to when they want cold meds, painkillers or bandaids, the office pharmacy, right here.

I'll typically go to work if I have a head cold. Working at home is more trouble than it's worth for my role, and a head cold is more of an annoyance than actually being sick.

Since about September I've had an allergy situation get worse after 2-3 day light cold. I thought it was the cold lingering on, but my sinuses have mostly been terrible since. I've tried multiple allergy medications and saline sprays, but only Zyrtec seems to moderately work. It's at least allowed me to sleep during the night without waking up to blow my nose. I've always had minor sinus issues, but I really hope I won't have to be on allergy medication for the rest of my life.

Minor colds are one thing. But when it comes with to the full menu of symptoms like fevers, chills, sore throats and coughs, that's another story.
