The Doors' "last known unissued studio recording," "Paris Blues," will be released in November. Its origins lie in either The Soft Parade or LA Woman sessions.

That's pretty cool. I'm kinda hoping that LP gets a wider release beyond a Record Store Day album. Or at the very least, the "new" song made available to stream.
Speaking of The Doors, I just saw Robbie is playing some shows at the Whisky a Go Go at the end of the month, and he uses the iconic Doors font for his name. I hope he cleared that with Densmore.

I didn't think "Paris Blues" was ever coming out! Both The Soft Parade and L.A. Woman (actually all of The Doors' albums) had 40th and 50th Anniversary editions and "Paris Blues" didn't make the cut - and both of those anniversary albums could've used it.

Apparently (according to that story I linked, which is all I know about it), the masters and all but one copy were lost or discarded, and the one remaining tape had been accidentally taped over in spots by a toddler. (I forget whose tape and kid, maybe Ray’s?)
That might have something to do with it, though they’ve fixed it now through the magic of editing. The guys also just apparently didn’t think it was that good a song!

Considering that Ray seemed to be the one who was most in favor of keeping the band out there, I'm surprised he didn't push for the song's release while he was still alive, regardless of the quality. Heaven knows not everything from the vaults was a winner.

At a certain point with certain bands' archival releases, the quality of the song or performance is almost irrelevant anyway. With legendary/classic bands, it's more a matter of the history. We all want there to be a forgotten gem, but more often than not it's pretty obvious why songs were left unreleased, or unfinished, etc.

The Doors had very few unreleased songs in the vaults, so their special anniversary albums contained many more remixes of released material than unreleased gems. Per that Ultimate Classic Rock article, Robby Krieger says, "It's just not that great of a tune." When one of the band members, and probably one of the composers of the song says something like that, I can't get too excited about it (though I love The Doors' blues).

Regardless of what Robbie says, I think the prospect of a "new" Doors song, over a half century after they ceased to be, is pretty exciting. I agree with Kap about songs from the vaults in general.

Just saw this on Hoffman. Maybe I’ll pick up a copy while I’m trying to get a copy of the Long Promised Road soundtrack on blue vinyl!

I've never attended a Record Store Day. I'm waiting for the day ( ) that CDs are deemed a worthy enough medium to include in the special sales.

It's my favorite format, but it's ridiculous when they want $35-$50 for a single lp. I saw they finally put the Monkees Missing Links series on vinyl last year - I have the first volume - but having it on vinyl is not worth that much money to me. I'm sure there will be a cd revival in a few years, and then they'll jack up the prices on them, too. Right now is a great time to buy cd's because nobody wants them!

Part of the deal with vinyl, I think, is that it is being viewed as a collectors' item more than a medium to play music. But to be fair, my understanding is that there is also just not the capacity for creating vinyl that there was decades ago: the industry backed so entirely away from it, its resurgence just wasn't supported by infrastructure.
As much as I love records from the perspective of look, liner notes, I've never been a collector of them for actual audio purposes. They were already getting very outdated by the time I got into buying my own music, and I'm not willing to shell out that much money for them now. I know audiophiles think it's important to listen that way, but I'm no audiophile.

About ten years ago, Eddie Trunk said there was only one plant in the Country manufacturing records. I'm not sure if that's still the case. I started collecting music in the mid 90s. By then, records were pretty much out. I remember a scene in Wayne's World 2 (released late 1993) where Tia Carrere's character laments the fact that her music will never be released on vinyl. Who knew?

I still buy lot used records, i enjoy hunting through record stores, antique shops and thrift stores for those elusive titles. Pretty much given up on new vinyl, though. There's just not a lot of new stuff that's important enough to me that I have to own a copy. CD's are much cheaper when you can find them, and actually I think CD's of new music generally sound better than vinyl.
