Are any of you fans of the Beatles' BBC recordings? I've long suspected that I'd listen to them more if I made a more concise playlist of the material. So, I've finally done it! I decided to just focus on the cover songs that weren't otherwise released by the Beatles (though, I made one exception). My goal was to create a set of about 14 songs that flowed nicely and sounded as if they belonged together (to the extent that was possible). I also wanted to highlight the Beatles varying musical styles/influences and mix up the leads and songs with or without vocal harmony. Basically, I wanted to put together a 30-35 minute set. And, I wanted it to be a fun set. I just listened to it, and I think the sequencing works really well! It's all sourced from Live at the BBC, so make a playlist and try it out next time you're in the mood for the Beatles. I left out some good ones, but I wasn't necessarily trying to pick the best. I suppose I could have just made a playlist including all 30-something of these songs, but, as explained, that's not what I was going for.
16 songs - 36 minutes
01. Sweet Little Sixteen 02. Memphis, Tennessee 03. Lonesome Tears In My Eyes 04. Clarabella 05. Soldier Of Love 06. I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry (Over You) 07. Crying, Waiting, Hoping 08. Carol 09. I'll Be On My Way 10. Too Much Monkey Business 11. Sure To Fall (In Love With You) 12. The Hippy Hippy Shake 13. The Honeymoon Song 14. Don't Ever Change 15. Honey Don't 16. Nothin' Shakin'
If you're unfamiliar, that version of "Honey Don't" has John on lead vocal. I didn't appreciate how great of a vocal it was until putting this playlist together. It's a piercing vocal. And, combined with George's rendition of "Nothin' Shakin'", is a great one-two punch to end the show.

The Beatles just had a way with early rock and roll. The running time makes it feel like a regular album.

Nice song selection. I'm a pretty big fan of the BBC releases. Especially since they show off how great of a rock band they were.

In the '00s, it seemed to me that every band I found that I liked hailed from Scotland. It was quite an indie rock scene. For some reason or another, I started thinking about some of those bands this afternoon. In their honor, I think I'll put together a compilation in the coming days.

'fraid it's looking like I won't go back further than the late '90s ... and maybe not even into the 20th century at all. This is going to be overwhelmingly from the '00s, which was my sweet spot for the Scots.

I have an older sister who first turned me on to Bob Dylan in the mid-70s with Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2, and Blood On The The Tracks. I know that she followed Dylan through the years, maybe not as closely as me, but she would pick up the occasional new Dylan album.
For awhile now, I wanted to make her a comp of relatively later-period Dylan, both to expose her to songs I'm pretty sure she wasn't familiar with, and to make it an enjoyable listening experience. On another thread we discussed "walking that line", which was trying to please the person who was on the receiving end of the comp, but at the same time including songs that were favorites of the person assembling the comp. Well, that's exactly what I'm doing with this Dylan comp. I am trying to make this comp as...enjoyable and enlightening...as I can for my sister, but I make no bones about it - every song on this comp is a personal favorite. When I listened to the final tracklist, I realized that it might be a little dark, but then, dark Dylan can be good.
Bob Dylan - Series Of Dreams
01 Someday Baby 02 Man In The Long Black Coat 03 Cold Irons Bound 04 Love Sick
05 Things Have Changed 06 Most Of The Time 07 Blind Willie McTell 08 High Water (For Charlie Patton) 09 Trying To Get To Heaven 10 God Knows 11 Summer Days 12 Not Dark Yet 13 Mississippi 14 Shooting Star 15 Series Of Dreams

My brother got me into Jon Foreman around the time of these EPs. He released one for each season from Fall '07 - Summer '08. I returned to them recently and put together a compilation of my favorite tracks. 12 tracks; 43 minutes. I've shared at least two of these tracks here previously. Anyway, I've been enjoying it for the past few days.
