Can't Wait Too Long is one of those songs where, due to the hypnotic repetition, is fun to listen to because it is trippy without actually having to “take a trip”. But I’m admittedly not super experienced in that realm. My first (and last) mushroom trip many years ago was not pleasant. 0/10 would not try again. I think music can unlock new perceptions all on its own.

Yeah I’ve never used anything stronger than weed, and while I’m occasionally curious whether I might’ve had a good experience on some psychedelics, I’m at least or more suspicious I would’ve had a bad one. (Hence never trying, I guess.) A good friend has suggested a few times I ought to give mushrooms a try sometime. I don’t see it happening. Maybe I’d try a microdose someday if recent research about possible benefits turns out true and I’m convinced it’s safe or prescribed it, but otherwise I’m entirely happy with my “boring” status quo.
As for music alone having the ability to affect the mind, I think that’s certain. My most powerful musical experiences were mostly in my teenage years, and I didn’t even drink at the time. (There’s probably no drugs stronger than those in the teenage mind.)

I’m no doctor but based on that I’m suggesting you continue to do without. As for the musical experience, getting into that head space can be done regardless. It has happened, but it's not something I can make happen. I had that experience one morning 10 years ago, laying in bed listening to TLOS.

Getting back to "Can't Wait Too Long", my first hearing of it (which makes it the definitive version for me) was at the end of the SS/WH twofer, where it follows the a cappella "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring". The transition to the glowing colours of "CWTL" never fails to floor me. Of course, that may be part of its charm! That said, I love it (in that version, with the bass and organ-heavy coda) and include it among my BB top five tracks.

Anyone else get tired of the group, and its fans, incessantly referring to each member as brother [blank] or cousin [blank]? I get wanting to establish that the Beach Boys are/were a family band, but...mission accomplished!!!

I think I've only ever heard / read Mike do that "Cousin Brian wrote this great song." etc etc. Are there actually fans who say "Brother Dennis wrote some great stuff too" kind of remarks?

Sometimes it’s the media getting a little too cute, eg the famous Rolling Stone article “The Healing of Brother Brian.”

Yes, I've heard/read those kind of remarks. That's a tad strange unless said fan has some of that "tainted Wilson blood."

And, of course, they named their studio, Brother Studios.

Dislikes: "Do It Again" (hate actually. Appreciate the "boring flick" pun ) "Fun Fun Fun" ("Surfin' USA" is million times funner) "Let The Wind Blow" (the worst song of WH) To be continued with unpopular likes.

From Endless Harmony to Feel Flows...I dislike extended mixes of "Til I Die".

(There’s probably no drugs stronger than those in the teenage mind.) In my younger years, I experimented with Acid and Shrooms. I did not enjoy the experience. Weed, however …. My edibles are legendary. Then again, I don’t really partake that much. It has to be a weekend. Since I have to be so “on” lately at work, it hasn’t even been that. My husband however…

From Endless Harmony to Feel Flows...I dislike extended mixes of "Til I Die". I think they are all flawed in some way which does detract from the overall enjoyment. There's a perfect mix still to be made, and I'm sure there will be more homemade ones popping up. Hey, maybe Brian nailed it in 1971 with his.

I think the short and sweet version that appeared on Surf's Up is about as perfect as one can get.
