"A third of the album is previously released songs."
"Hey!!! You release three albums in a year."

Another album (the last?) with no follow-up post... until now. I remember hearing this great song on French radio in 1963 with a unique and evocative chord change in the chorus--trouble is, even armed with all four UK pop music weeklies, I couldn't work out what it was! On paper, certainly to a Brit, the title should have sounded more like "Little Dee-oose Coo-pay" than "Little Doose Coop"! But I digress... For an album that's one-third previous albums and one twelfth alternate recording, it's still one of my favourites by the Boys. Of the new songs, "Cherry, Cherry Coupe" and "Spirit Of America" are both among my top ten BB songs and "No-Go Showboat" and "Custom Machine" are gorgeous tracks. "A Young Man Is Gone" is their first a cappella outing on disc and very classy it is too, certainly for a pop band in 1963! I have a slight problem with "Ballad Of Ole' Betsy". There's something about the final four chords that unsettles me--I think it's the second chord that does it. It's slightly off in some way but why should a hardcore doo wop fan have any trouble with that? Maybe I'll get over it in time...

Are you counting the last syllable with the passing tones / suspensions and releases as four chords, or as one chord? If so, I can see why it'd put you off: it's out of tune! Sounds like Brian's high Ab dips a bit and at least one of the descending notes is off at the same time.
