You guys had fans at NFL games this year, right? Baltimore did for one game in late October, but then the COVID cases started to rise, but they shut that down. 6k were allowed starting with the second or third game and it was raised to 12k at some point during the season. Once Burrow went out though, there were always plenty of tickets available. Opening Day is a big holiday in Cincinnati. I had tickets to go last year, but will probably skip this year. Not interested in paying the elevated prices without all of the pomp and circumstance. Opening Day is the same here in Baltimore. Even in lean years (which has occurred far more often than not since I've been a fan), the game is always sold out, and Baltimore treats the day like a giant party. I've actually not gone to a Home Opener since 2010. I've attended five Opening Days, so I kinda feel like I've been there, done it, got the shirt, yada yada. With 81 games on the schedule, I have a hard time justifying taking time off work and paying double the usual ticket price (or more if I have to go on the secondary market) to attend a ballgame.

It was just announced today that the Baltimore Orioles will be allowed to have fans at 25% capacity to start the season at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. After Opening Day, that'll be a pretty normal crowd.

25% capacity is basically what has been OK'd here as well: 10k of the 39.5k capacity of Target Field.

The Baltimore Orioles were all set to open the 2021 today in Boston, but Mother Nature had alternate plans. The game was postponed to tomorrow.

The Twins open in Milwaukee. I'm not sure of the weather there, but here we're nearing the home stretch of a surprisingly cold spell (considering we were over 70 last weekend) with highs in the 30s and very strong winds. But it'll be back into the 70s again by the weekend again with a lot of 50s and 60s to follow. Should be good weather for baseball.

From what I read about the weather in Boston, they could probably play today, maybe with a delay. But, with a built in off day tomorrow, and the return of a limited amount of fans, it's probably better for Opening Day's sake to push it off to a better weather day.

So, yesterday afternoon, while finished up my grocery shopping, I get a notification on my phone that Orioles pitcher John Means has a no hitter through seven innings in Seattle.
I rush to finish up, and get checked out.
I got home just in time for the ninth inning, and got to witness Means record the last three outs of the first Orioles no hitter in 30 years. Wow! I have to say I haven't been this excited about a baseball game in almost five years, but that was awesome.
And, apparently, he became the first pitcher ever to throw a non perfect, 27 batter no hitter with no walks or errors. The only runner that reached base did so on a strike three wild pitch. And, he was thrown out trying to steal.

Despite the easing of the COVID restrictions, I've not heard about any news on Orioles games. I know that I won't be attending any this season if MLB sticks with their mask mandate.
On a lighter note, today marks the 30th anniversary of my first ever baseball game. It was at the end of my fifth grade year. It was a cloudy Friday night, on May 17, 1991. My father took me and two school friends to Memorial Stadium for a game against the Angels. The Orioles won 5-1, and they gave away the first set of All Time Orioles Baseball Cards to commemorate the closing of Memorial Stadium.
My father tried to take me to a game when I was five or six, but I had no interest.

The MLB All Star Game was last night.
It used to be one of my favorite nights of the summer. Seeing all the stars in their different uniforms on one field.
But, I think Interleague play took a lot of intrigue away. And now, all the players wear the same uniform, so the optical beauty is gone too.
I think its been five years now since I've watched an All Star Game. I kinda wish I still had the same interest

Now that we've had some distance from it, I do think full interleague play is what has really taken away a lot of the allure from the all star game. Even with the prior version that was used up to 2012 or so, you might go a few years without seeing players from the other league unless you catch a national broadcast or they're in the playoffs. I remember it was a huge deal when teams like the Yankees or Red Sox would come to town because it was a rare chance to see A-Rod or David Ortiz play in person or watch a game against the Reds on TV. There's also a lot more national games now, too. I think a little bit of it also is the players these days treat it more as an experience and not a competitive game. Now with all of that said, I still watch every year with a fair amount of interest. Shohei Ohtani is doing stuff that hasn't been done since Babe Ruth, that's must watch TV for me.

Used to be able to watch The Royals when they were on Fox Sports Midwest on Sling, but now they aren’t, so I can only see the very few games available on local broadcast TV. Here’s hoping the NFL never goes that route.

Here’s hoping the NFL never goes that route. Unlike MLB, the NFL seems to actually want as many eyes on their product as possible.
