I remember one article said it ended up being Brian talking about Carl and Dennis the whole time, so it wouldn't be surprising if the end result was not what they wanted.

I think many of us would LOVE that! Assuming he’s really speaking substantively and from the heart, not spouting rehearsed talking points.

Since it's come up in the Shoutbox...
We are approaching the one-year mark since the release of the pre-movie poster and some limited information about this completed documentary. So ... what's up? Did they decide Nick Jonas and Taylor Hawkins (ok, and Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, etc.) weren't sufficient to praise the fella? Did they want to bring in a third filmmaker to add his own special sauce?
More than anything, I am just hoping there is an accompanying soundtrack with at least a few unreleased or new songs.

Maybe they've been unable to get Bono and McCartney to provide new talking head segments. Perhaps, waiting to hear back from Billie Eilish's people?

It might be funny to go through the various "of the moment" people who have been brought in over the years. Sean Lennon, who marveled at the use of major seventh and ninth chords in the Imagination companion doc; Ricky Martin belting one out "for all the Rhondas in the house" at the All-Star Tribute; the Fleet Foxes at TLOS; the legendary Sebu and Peter Hollens on NPP...

So it’s showing at festivals in April, maybe a summer or fall release to streaming? Or is there some benefit to them holding off (more festivals or something)?

I think we lulled the doc out of its slumber Never underestimate the quiet influence of The Beach Boys Today! Forum.

Actually we might be the only BBs-related board in history that didn’t either tout the “important people” who followed it, or claim our individual super-special connections…

I'm still fairly interested in watching it. I'm just keeping my expectations very low.
I do think an interesting story can be told about the resurgence of Brian Wilson as a touring artist.

I’m definitely interested but skeptical about any BB/BW-related project that is sanctioned. Inevitably they end up so obviously negotiated and curated. Still, that’s the trade off for access, especially as long as the principals are still alive.

The fact that it’s being entered into festivals should be a pretty good sign though. We might not get many or any new insights from Brian, but the filmmakers must be pretty confident in the doc’s quality and entertainment value. Very promising.

My biggest hope: soundtrack (with archival or new material)!

This probably fits in the The Genius Of Brian Wilson thread, but did you read that sentence in the Rolling Stone article - Brian Wilson:Long Promised Road captures the last 20 years of Beach Boys genius Wilson. Now, even if I'm being the most generous, complimentary person, there weren't many genius moments in the last 20 years of Brian Wilson's career. But I'll bet they try very hard to prove it via the comments of the featured guests. The casual fan will probably be fascinated with the quirky, modern-day Brian Wilson, and some may even wonder what all the fuss is about. In order to address that, I would also expect some vintage film clips from the 60's, all of which we've seen before. As far as the car conversations, I keep getting this mental picture of that recent Seinfeld show.

I assume they mean more that the genius is a permanent adjective, not something to be ascribed only to this or that work. So even a senile Brian Wilson would be "a genius" even if he doesn't know his name, just because he has previously worked his way up to and above the bar.
