I don't know...I'm tempering my enthusiasm on this one. The hook or the attraction of this documentary is Brian...speaking. I guess he is supposed to be talking about his music, unfiltered, in a relaxed setting. If that's true, if he does, I won't say it will be the first time Brian does this, but it's rare, especially over the last decade(s). I hope I'm wrong, but I'm expecting something like, "The Beach Boys Love You? Oh, I love that album. "Mona" is a great song. Dennis sang that."

Oh I wouldn’t expect the world, that’s for sure. But I look forward to it anyway. There’s bound to be SOMETHING interesting or entertaining in it. Some funny anecdote, maybe some little rarity or unreleased tidbit associated.

I think you're also going to get a lot of "I love touring, and hearing the audience sing my songs." Along with Brian's band members saying, "Oh Brian loves touring."

Your comment prompts me to repeat my above point/post that the Executive Producer is Melinda Wilson and the Co-Producer is Jean Sievers. So, yeah, I would expect some pre-meditated messages or points to be made.

To be fair, nobody should take any docs produced by artists themselves a anything beyond PR. It’s not just Brian’s organization. Especially with streaming outlets I notice them popping up left and right, “behind the scenes” and “inspiring” glimpses... Athletes are doing it too now. Everyone is a brand to market...

With less and less people buying tangible music, they have to explore other avenues.
I know Queen + Adam Lambert recently did one that was essentially a two hour EPK for their current tour.
I always wished some outside director would take on the BB story, sort of how Scorsese did with the Stones and George Harrison or Sam Dunn did with Rush and Alice Cooper.

I couldn’t agree more. In fact I’ve been a broken record for 20 years wishing for a long series on them—and it’s more feasible now than ever considering the outlets available beyond movie or commercial tv.
Getting everyone to participate would presumably be the issue (well, that and paying for the rights to use music and other people’s footage). But if it doesn’t happen soon, it won’t happen.

But you know what's interesting about that, the touring topic. I wonder if this documentary - if it even comes out - appears somewhat dated? Brian has experienced some health issues the last year or so, and I'm wondering if his touring is significantly winding down (pure speculation on my part). It would appear to be a little awkward with Brian professing to enjoy touring in a NEW documentary when in the present, in 2020, he is struggling with his health, pushing 80, and maybe is not as...enthused anymore.

I think that's a good question. If that's the case, then the narrative of the doc could change to looking back on the "most unlikely prolific touring artist of the 21st century," and the switch from recluse to perennial touring act.

Yeah, I would expect that. Another "Brian confronts his demons" piece, much like BWPS. Just substituting the topic from SMiLE to touring.

Right, some tortured genius talk, insert a dig or two at Mike Love, etc etc.

Confronting demons/tortured genius sadly is a well worn headline by now. And he’ll, we even had the “unlikely touring act” narrative with On Tour (I think it was called), almost 20 years ago.
I thought this one was supposed to be casual interactions (while driving around LA maybe?).

This has got me thinking that the doc maybe derailed in progress... the reality perhaps didn't match the goal, and maybe now it's a matter of regrouping and reframing what has been shot into something else, hence the delay.

And one would hate for this to set a new precedent for BBs-related projects not arriving on time or as announced! 😀
