Has anyone been following news (if there is any) on this? Honestly I lost track of the whole thing when the rioting broke out and only just remembered it this morning. I'm assuming it wasn't streamed for free yet, or at least wasn't publicized, in that I haven't seen anyone anywhere mention it.

Not to go off-topic, but I also haven't heard anything on the Feel Flows boxed set and the special "Add Some Music To Your Day" recording that Bruce Johnston mentioned in a recent podcast. With people spending more time in their homes listening to more music than usual, and not attending live performances, this summer would've been the perfect time to release all three of these projects. I recall about a month ago, there was also "BIG NEWS" on the horizon.

For those who don't read SSMB (or just missed this post), I asked for an update and GoodVibrations33 answered my prayer. This is the most recent news on the topic that I'm aware of.

How many years has it been since this doc was in the works? If I'm not mistaken, way back around the autobiography time it was already begun and being discussed. And now it has been finished for a year or so, with months to go yet before we see it? Hopefully none of the references anyone makes in it are meant to be timely! "Well, here we are with Barack Obama as president of the United States," someone says despite the 2022 release date...

I have a feeling that this doc is being held back until there are Brian Wilson shows to promote again.

It has more to do with major films than this, but at what point do you just bite the bullet and release the film? There's going to be a point where multiple major films are out a once and you may in up hurting yourself more than if it was released in the near future. I was hoping this doc would make it's way to Netflix. I don't see it being big enough to be in theaters.

I was hoping this doc would make it's way to Netflix. I don't see it being big enough to be in theaters. I feel exactly the same way. I think the idea had been--and still is, just delayed--to do some festivals to generate buzz and then presumably go to streaming (and DVDs if they still do that sort of thing?). Theaters, at least on a broad scale, seem like a pipe dream. I'm guessing it's just going to be limited screenings at art-house type theaters, if anything at all beyond festivals.
But also I think your other point is a good one: if everyone holds off until things are closer to normal, there will be such a glut of product that anyone's specific film is less likely to get any attention anyway!
And more to KDS's point, if the thought is to correlate it with touring, they might want to shelf that idea entirely. Mr. Wilson is 78 now and hasn't toured in, what, 6-8 months? It's likely to be another 6 months before he could tour again. And while a 6-12 month wait isn't a big deal for many of us, sadly with people in his age group, changes can occur pretty quickly. I'm not sure he's going to be capable of touring and giving even as strong of performances as he did the past few years, and those performances were already significantly worse than the few years before that. He's not going to get better at performing, and he's not going to be better suited to tour. Not to be a downer, but it's just true. His true touring days might be behind him. I'm not saying the guy will never do another show, or even runs of shows. But he might be done doing months at a time.

What you say makes sense, and is perfectly logical. Which is why the opposite will likely happen.

Saw this posted elsewhere: For the Long Promised Road doc, Brian recorded covers of Honeycomb, I Hear You Knockin', Johnny B. Goode, and Long Promised Road, the latter with Blondie Chaplin and Jim James from My Morning Jacket. I assume they're waiting for the documentary to be released. According to the director, Brian and Jim James also cowrote a song and sing it together on the recording.

Interesting. I'm not generally excited about covers, and these aren't any different (though I'm happy to be surprised). However, the new "Long Promised Road" is somewhat interesting, and the new song of course is even more interesting. I've never been much of a My Morning Jacket fan, but there are some things from them that really do strike me as quite good, and Jim James has a very good voice. (It was also a lot of fun seeing him in the "New Basement Tapes" project a few years back. His contributions to that were good.)

Hopefully it will be released to streaming shortly thereafter. Seems like we've been waiting forever for this thing! Wasn't it completely done and ready for release more than a year ago? Its footage must be a good two or three years old by now.

Hopefully, this extended EPK (I'm sorry, but at this point, I'm not expecting any more than this) is ready for viewing on a streaming platform I already have.
