Oh I totally agree Al could’ve handled it on NPP. Ruess did well with it too, though.

Another couple, this time from POB.
"Rainbows," which is one of the songs on that album I like most, would have been great as a Beach Boys song. Can you imagine Carl (or even Mike, for that matter) coming in on the lead at the "Earth opens up..." bit just under a minute in? Or the full band doing the background vocals?
"River Song" is so obvious that it barely requires a mention.
Carl would have absolutely shone on "Pacific Ocean Blue." (Blondie, too, in earlier years.) And obviously Mike was born to sing the low parts.

"Sail Away" came on while I was torturing myself this morning (i.e., running ... speaking of which, why was it only 32 degrees again this morning?). And I have to state the obvious: that would have been a killer addition to TWGMTR or some other Beach Boys effort!
I'd have kicked it off with Mike instead of Blondie. But the main thing that jumped out at me was that those first "oooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh" parts should have been Bruce.

So, I gave BWRG a spin today and one of my biggest takeaways was that "Nothing But Love" could have worked brilliantly as a Beach Boys track. The backing track and backing vocals are great. I'd leave them mostly as is. I might just add a touch of Mike and Bruce to the backing vocals. The big change I have in mind is giving most of the lead to Al. I think Al would have sounded fantastic on the verses. Imagine the bridge (?) like this...
[Brian] There will always be sun and moonshine above [Al] But most of all [Mike] there will be love
This could have been a great late period BBs song!
